Re: Source for Gillette Silver Blue blades ?

Clive - for me the GSB is a great blade. My concern is being attracted by a low price and finding that the blades are counterfeit. I'm looking for a reliable source of genuine GSBs at a reasonable price. IMO, $40-45 per hundred is not reasonable. Ama*** has them at $22 but there have been reports of...

Source for Gillette Silver Blue blades ?

Does anyone have a recommendation on a source for Gillette Silver Blue blades? I am concerned about counterfeit blades coming from Amazon (and perhaps other sources too). The other sources I found are pretty expensive. So hoping for a better source for legit GSBs. Thank you.

Thanks for the advice.

I posted in two forums because I thought I may get answers in "Straight Razors" that may not appear in "General."

Is knife cleaning similar to straight razor cleaning?

I have a Remington RB44 pocketknife made 1920-1920 and owned by my wife's fraternal grandfather. The blades are carbon steel. The hinge, bolster and interior of the knife are probably iron but I can't say for sure. Blades are sharp. The large blade has no rust, and the small blade has a smalll amoun...

@ Gene -

The museum at Fredericksburg is absolutely first class. I know because I knew the guy who was behind it. He told me about the PT boat and other artifacts. VERY much worth seeing. This fellow died a couple years ago. Top shelf gentleman. Navy 40 years.

Re: Hi from Scotland

I'm far from an expert but would like to recommend D. R. Harris soaps, which are one of the few old-school tallow-based hard puck soaps around. Some feel that DRH is hard to lather, which was my experience UNTIL finding a different method. After thoroughly wetting the face with a hot washcloth, rub ...

Re: good sipping whiskey?

Maker's Mark. Hands down. Pricey and worth it.

Teeling's Irish Whiskey. Not as expensive as Maker's (unless you get the single malt) and very good.

Re: Green tea

Or you could go balls-to-the-wall and get Fortnum & Mason tea. The good news is that you don't have to go to London (Picadilly, established 1707) to get it nowadays. For a long time, Williams-Sonoma was the only F&M stocklist in California. Nowadays, I see several sources listed on Google. h...

Re: Desktop wireless printer problems

Good detective work, Gary. I never would have thought Defender would block the printer from printing. I suppose Defender could conceivably block a download/update if it thought the item was a virus. But blocking a printer? Nah, would have never thought of that one.

Jojo - I don't mean to be rude. But I am confused. DRH triple-milled tallow refill pucks are available on Amazon for USD$20-ish apiece. What am I missing?

jc penney is best kept secret evahhhh. clive Back in the day, Penney was considered mainline and respectable. Nowadays, many consider it old-fashioned and passe, and would rather patronize trendy retailers that play loud rap or hardrock music in their stores. Our 47-year old daughter recently bough...

@ Tieste -

You asked which formulation I have. I use D R Harris tallow-based pucks. Usually almond, lavender or Windsor. SWMBO does not like the smell of Arlington and Marlborough. Due to her respiratory issues, I don't want to cause her any discomfort.

Re: Sustainability

Adding my two cents to Mike's post above, I believe we each get to draw our own boundaries based on our perceptions of ethical conduct. One person's boundaries need not be the same as another's. Nobody has a right to criticize the other person's ethical choices and boundaries. Their choices are thei...

And best of all, in my view, is that they all respect the National Emblem. I go to a sporting event (or watch on tv) to see the sporting event, not to be lectured on a particular political point of view.

Maybe it's our hard water, but I have never had success that way. I rub the puck on my wet stubble, as if a shave stick, and it works better for me.

Re: Pre shave oil

Having tried several pre-shave products unsuccessfully, I read somewhere that shaving lather has exactly the right PH to break down the structure of the hair shaft, making it easier to shave. The advice was to leave lather on the face for a few minutes before shaving. That process has worked well fo...

Great contest, John. I'm in.

I took DE to Ushuaia, Argentina, which claims to be the most southerly place in South America, and cruised around Cape Horn. Does that count as exotic?

Thank you

Re: New Hearing Aids - 4 Years On

For you US military veterans out there, the VA now gives ANY vet hearing aids and supplies FREE for life.

See https://www.prosthetics.va.gov/psas/Hearing_Aids.asp

Note - the veteran need not have a "service-connected disability" as was once required.
