Re: got a new gold futur

I have sometimes thought of getting a chinese made Futur clone, but I don't think I have that kind of shaving technique or able to use its adjustability. Usually with Merkur Progress I shave first pass with about 2.5 setting and then with 1.5 the rest one(s). They say of what I have read that Futur...

Re: I’m looking for very mild safety razors for sensitive skin. HELP!

Hi Guys and Thanks Gary.

Yes that's the right one.

Can be expensive but in the 1kg pack it's ok.
Price comes down to regular Cella 150 gr or better.

Also check for specials.

Re: I’m looking for very mild safety razors for sensitive skin. HELP!

@ Murray Hi Murray I do note what you say about the 1912 being aggressive. That was what I was expecting but I have found it to be very efficient and not aggressive at all. I also think the soap helps and I feel the ABAC is better than Cella with this combination. I get about 12 shaves from a GEM PT...

Re: I’m looking for very mild safety razors for sensitive skin. HELP!

Just a further update. I like fairly mild shavers and have (with comments) Tech - too mild for me Progress - good but wore out (kept changing setting) I used on 1.5-2.5 EJ DE89 - mild Variant - same as Progress but a heavier shaver Krona - Mild Starfire? Open Comb great shave but aggressive. Can't u...

Re: I’m looking for very mild safety razors for sensitive skin. HELP!

I generally like mild razors and I find the Tech almost too mild. I have some adjustables incl Progress and Variant but the one I think is the mildest (and also the cheapest by far) is the Chinese Futur copy from Q shave (or a dozen others). I don't have a Futur for direct comparison but it is defin...

Re: You lot are all despicable….

Brian I think you're pretty safe. As per Gary's better half she's seen hobbies come and go. She has become quite philosophical about all of this AD. After about 8 cameras and lenses, a stock of about 15 watches, heaps of cycling stuff I think I've exhausted her with persistence. Then again why shoul...

Re: not sure

Bruce I'm with the majority here that suggest 11 shaves is pushing it. The trick is to figure out the warning signs that the blade has had enough and shouldn't be pushed to the next shave. On my dial the most obvious indicator is that, after a usual shave, the bristles under my chin is not as smooth...

Re: You lot are all despicable….

See... See .... See what I mean! Now you are all using philosophy to justify the things you are doing! Next it will be environmental considerations and after that somehow if we keep doing this it will also get the US government out of the c&@p ..(but that could take a few tons of MWF Wendell)......

Re: You lot are all despicable….

Yes Brian Fiendishly successful. I'm trying to keep it so that I will be able to use all the products before I'm 104. I'd say at the moment that I would probably use up all the "consumables" within say 12 months, which is not to say that I'm 103 at present. I am impressed with some guys th...

Re: You lot are all despicable….

Hi Wendell I should have known you'd have something to say about the FAT. I just spent time telling one and all that I didn't want to complicate my life. Maybe somewhere own the track I'll get a battery powered brush (hey how come no one's invented one of those yet) so I can get a good lather quickl...

You lot are all despicable….

I decided to re- enter the world of wet shaving because my electric was roughing up my skin too much. I also decided I didn’t want another mortgage to afford the latest cartridge fad so I decided I’d go back to DE. I ended up at this and another prominent forum and started lurking. I thought you guy...

Always interesting to hear about these things as I've got a Semogue Boar coming. I currently use an Omega Boar. Talk about a month to break in. I've had mine for about five months and it still smells like a wet dog. Works fine though. I did buy a nice Semogue Badger but I find it a bit soft when usi...

Thanks for the info Squire and Roger.

Squire did you notice anything like a convex or hollow grind edge when you were doing your reviews?

Aw heck Rasco stop taking the fun out of this. I agree with you that if it gives a close and smooth shave a person would use it but what many members seem to be interested in is why the performance is so. For instance if others inspected blades that I don't have and they identified a convex gr...

I agree that Squire did a great job with the photos but its hard to see the curvature if the light is not right. Btw I'm still not saying I'm correct in my conclusions so if there is any corroborating evidence it would be good. The other thing is that I think a convex grind is actually difficult to ...

My blade's better 'n your blade!

The human eye is actually quite a delicate instrument and when I was changing some blades recently I noticed some funny reflections (besides me in the mirror!). One blade was the Astra Platinum and the other a Feather. I use both blades and my preference is for the Astra Platinum as it provides me w...

Good idea

I like the solution based outcomes like this. I have a EJ89DB, a Gillette TTO and a Tech and I've got to say that you may have found a way to save the Tech from gathering dust forever. I don't have an adjustable so can anyone advise how many blade spacers it would take to go from say 1 to 6. Or I co...
