Re: Rooney Style 3 Size 1 - Pure vs. Badger

Thanks for your responses. I guess what I am really looking for is a brush with a good backbone to it -- something that will work its way into my tough whiskers. That Simpsons synthetic Chubby sounds really interesting - I will have to keep my eyes open for it. I am a face latherer, so I really don'...

Rooney Style 3 Size 1 - Pure vs. Badger

Hello gentlemen, I have a Rooney style 3 size 1 Super Badger shave brush that I purchase a number of years ago. I like the style and the size of this brush very much. However, as I have evolved as a wetshaver, I have come to the conclusion that I like a brush that has a bit more body to it. To a gre...

Thank you for all of your comments. I went ahead and ordered a 620. I look forward to its arrival. From what I have read, it seems that a boar takes some time to really break in. If this is the case, any advice on how to prepare myself for perhaps not being overwhelmed by this brush the first few ti...

Semogue 620 vs 830

I've been using a Rooney 3/1 Super exclusively for about the last two years. I'm a face latherer, and this brush has served me well. However, it does a better job with creams than it does with soaps. Therefore, I'm looking to get a boar brush that will primarily be my soap brush. I'm drawn to the ac...

That starter kit looks like a great deal. I think that I will place an order for a kit (and something for myself) when I get home from work. I'll pass along my EJ razor when my boy has some experience shaving.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. Bryce, thank you for your kind offer. I may decide to take you up on it. My son would probably find it neat that someone offered a razor to help him learn with. I've been torn about whether to surprise him with some gear or to get him involved in the process. To...

How to introduce my son to shaving

Hello gents, I have not posted in quite some time. Please forgive me. I am writing because I need some advice on how I should help my son learn to shave. My son, will be entering high school this fall, really enjoys showing off his "mustache." However, the time is quickly approaching when ...

Harris Arlington Milk

It seems that Harris Pink Milk generally gets good remarks from gents here at SMF. However, a search did not reveal many recent comments about the Arlington milk. I've been using Harris shave soap almost exclusively for the last six weeks. I've mainly been using the almond scent. However, I like the...

Lovingly and with undying respect
No doubt that will be the case!

I decided to go with Arlington and Almond. If all goes well the pair should arrive in time for me to enjoy them this weekend.

Gordon / Wendell, Thanks for your responses. I've been shaving with this brush for several years and thought that I had things figured out. However, in the past I've typically used either a cream or an Art of Shaving soap. My technique was fine. Recently, however, I've been using Trumper's sandalwoo...

I don't know what this means, but prior to today's shave I gave my brush a good hard squeeze. This meant that the brush was much dryer than is typically the case when I started to work the soap. The result -- a nice thick lather. I'll try the same technique tomorrow to see what happens. I hope that ...

Help me with this Lathering Concern

Help me understand what is happening, please. For my daily shave I use some variety of shave soap (for the last few days T & H Luxury shave soap) and a Rooney Super Badger brush (Style 3 / Size 1, I believe). I put a bit of water on the soap and let it sit while I take a shower. When its time to...

Hey Wendell, I'm old enough to remember the winter of 77. However, I wasn't living in this area at the time - I was in Ohio. My wife and her family were here. Her father likes to tell the story about riding snowmobiles up and down the streets of town delivering food to people who were stuck in their...

Sorry about that, Crag. The message that I tried to send your way was sitting in my "out" box. I've tried to send you another pm. If this attempt doesn't work, perhaps you can send one my way and I can reply to you.

Well, as Max said, the group has spoke -- its Almond and Lavender for me. I'm sure that I will try the Arlington at some point. However, words such as "powdery" and "sweet" are not what I am looking for -- especially deep in the midst of a Buffalo, NY winter. Marlborough was neve...

Help me with my first DR Harris Soap purchase

Hello Gents, I'm just about ready to make my first purchase of D.R. Harris soaps. From what I have been reading lately, Harris seems to be pretty easy to whip into a nice cushioning cream that provides good razor glide. That sounds exactly like my dream shave. Here is my dilemma -- I'm trying to lim...

Chris,

I noticed that your MWF refill is out of stock. Can I order now and get this same price on the next shipment (when it arrives)? When do you expect to have more in stock?
