Hi
Iv'e noticed on a lot of forums there is a bias of using stropping pastes in razor honing. I have used them for decades and find them an essential tool in the kit. Does anyone know the genesis of this aversion?
Thanks

Re: Anyone use a Genco razor?
I was surprised/dismayed to discover the following: - I need to use a little more pressure with the straight than the safety razor. Until I figured that out, I wound up with a lot of tugging before I essentially scraped just the soap off my cheeks. More pressure is not needed. It feels different si...

Re: Stropping questions from a straight razor newbie
I find with TI paddle strops their own white paste is best on the black side. How often to use it is personal preference. I use mine once a month maybe with the razor I use daily. I use the buck side unpasted as a daily strop. The suede side does not need a lot of care. Mild brushing. That is the be...

Re: Anyone use a Genco razor?
Genco's are a great razor. They were the number one producer of straights in the US (3000/day) up until the late 30's. They had their own foundry and forge. Great shavers, great grinds and easy to hone. Only issue is they used a lot of cracked ice and candy stripe celluloid which was more prone to c...

Re: Review - The Art of Shaving
I love theirs creams and considering most artisan product pricing has been creeping up to the $25 mark and above, their pricing is well within the norm.

Re: Quarter hollow or full hollow?
... Then there was the cynical attempt to create a myth about a certain razor that never needed stropping and was sharp enough to cut through diamonds even after forty shaves. I think that guy was just experimenting and found his niche for exploiting the market in the end. There is no magic razor, ...

Re: What I learned in 7 years away from the shaving forums
Long time lurker who rarely posts...even on the old SMF where I had been a member. Agree with all your points. The reformulations of the greats have not been the best, the meteoric rise of all the various artisan software just kinds of flies by without notice. The same with the newfangled, brushes, ...

I like the series too. The acting is superb and gives a great back story to Morse. The mysteries themselves are jumping the shark and leaving logic to the wayside. Hope that will improve

Re: Williams Soap
I used Williams for years. It is a good soap. The one thing I really like is that it is really good at softening the whiskers. I find it easy to use and get very close shaves with it. The scent can get tiresome when used on a daily basis and is the only real negative for me.

Re: Rolling My Own
Just curious have you tried making your soap from Tallow and Coconut oil then after saponification add the melted stearic acid. Just test for neutrality after mixing and compensate with more lye or stearate
