Re: How long has it been since you bought new soap or cream?
A few weeks ago I ordered and received a tub of GFT sandalwood cream. Although I've been hanging around here for 6 or 7 years and am not new to wet shaving, believe it or not, that was the first tub of GFT sandalwood I ever purchased or used. In recent years my shaving cream purchases have been reord...

Re: Crabtree & Evelyn Sweet Almond Oil Shave Cream
John, Oh, wow, sorely tempted to bite. A few years ago, when I was still in Sweet Almond Oil withdrawal, I probably would have jumped, but much more subdued today. Thanks for posting the link! My experience and/or opinion similar. I missed the very fine scent, unlike any other almond cream I tried ...

Re: What's today's soap or cream?
Although I've been a member of SMF since the "Crack of Doom" days I used today for the first time GFT Sandalwood shaving cream. I found that it works very well and has a pleasant scent. However, the scent wasn't what I expected. To me, it didn't resemble the cologne. Instead, it seemed to ...
Re: QED
Charles was the first "classic shaving" items vendor with whom I dealt some years ago and is still my "go to" guy most of the time. I have used several other vendors-all of whom are very good-in those rare occasions when he doesn't stock some items which I use. In a universe of g...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream
Killing time this morning and was just thumbing through some posts on the other forms and figured I would do a quick comparison on shave cream prices: Price per Ounce Musgo Real $4.41 Speick 2.60 TOBS 2.64 AoS 5.00 T&H 4.48 Trumpers 4.40 had to estimate versus T&H DRH 4.71 had to estimate a...

Re: The Body Shop
Thank you for the news , sir. Like the performance , price , but dislike the scent.I find T&H N10 to perform like this cream but better scent (citrusy). That's also my take on this product. I disliked the scent just enough to keep me from buying more, but not enough to keep me from using up and...

I hope I have the same verve as you when I reach 82. The BK4 is deceptively dense, and that might be what's throwing you off with the learning curve finding the right mix. Its bristles are thinner than usual, which makes it soft, but they're packed dense enough to give it some backbone and hold mor...

I like the TOBS Coconut too. I do prefer the Trumpers though...softer scent and that great Trumper consistency. Max I'm with you on this one. Don't get me wrong; I'm a major fan of both Taylor and Trumper shave creams, and the Taylor coconut is a fine product; shaves great and has a pleasant scent....

Over the last couple of years my shaving cream inventory has been reduced to those products which I like the best and use the most. Over that time I simply haven't had the urge to try out every new brand or scent that comes to market. When I finished up a product already in my inventory I did not re...

I'm very fond of Musgo bath soap and have been a semi-regular user for some years. I experienced no noticeable difference in the tallow-based and vegetable-based versions. I can write the same about several other bath soaps I've used. There are times when I feel like some sort of soap barbarian beca...

JT -- What cartridges have you been using? Genuine Atras, or something else? This is a tough one. I use genuine Atras for the most part, but, every now and then, I'll use a generic. I always regret using the knock-off, but my budget doesn't always allow for the real deal. The knock-offs don't last ...

When your blade starts tugging and/or begins to start skipping, it's time to change. I'm a pretty hard core injector razor user. In my experience I get 4 shaves per blade with Chinese made Schick blades. It never seems to vary. In my pre-injector days I could count on 5 shaves with Sensor cartridges...

Shaving cream and "hard" water
Over the last few years I've discovered that Salter shaving creams seem to "work" a bit better with hard water than do the other English creams, such as Trumper, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Harris, and T&H. Here in my little part of central Tennessee hard water is not a problem; however...

Very interesting
I've never seen a Gillette injector razor like that. It is certainly very stylish. Hopefully there is someone else out there who can provide us with some history of this design.

Very large brushes
I'm not a brush expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I do own and enjoy using occasionally a Shavemac 220 with a 28 mm knot and sivertip badger hair (as defined by Shavemac). I bought that rascal back in the day when Shavemac was commisioned to design and supply the first SMF brush. It's st...

Favorite razor
Six years ago, almost to the day, I bought a couple of L1 Schick injector razors NOS in sealed cans. I've opened one can and have used that razor almost exclusively ever since. The second can is still unopened in my linen closet; I won't open it until I either break or lose the one I'm using. Maybe ...

Penhaligans shave creams
I've owned and used Blenheim Bouquet and Douro (which hasn't been available for a few years). In terms of lathering and "on the face" performance they are very, very good. They have worked for me about as well as my favorite Trumper and Taylor creams. However, unless you can't live without...
