Re: Return to Simplicity

My father suffered seriously from tremors his last couple of years and had to resort to an electric shaver which my mother wielded for him. Not looking forward to that day -- not sure what it was he had, but my mother keeps telling me it's hereditary ..... :(

My C&E Super Badger -- which is a Edwin Jagger clearly branded item - is also huge, showing similar proportions to my Wee Scot 9 - a wonderful little latherer in its own right. :D

Return to Simplicity

I have been part of this enjoyable practice of wet shaving with vintage tools for quite some time now, and was recently musing on how my routine has become simplified over the years. When I first started with SMF, I picked up any soap and cream I could get ahold of. I used multiple razors with many ...

Re: Le Tour 2018

Gary has the acronyms correct. Le Tour, as it is more commonly known in cycling circles, is still for me the ultimate in individual performance sports. Riding more than 3000km in three weeks requires super human dedication and some level of masochism. This year's tour was everything no one expected....

Le Tour 2018

The welshman raised in Manchester takes Yellow in an epic showdown of GC riders. Today's TT was possibly the best individual race in recent memory. Still not sure how that racecourse timing screwed up between Dumoulin and Froome, who rode like a man possessed today. Dumoulin matched the 4X Tour winn...

These are excellent razors - the Gillette slim adjustable was designed, I believe, after this razor. What's the date code?

Re: World Cup 2018

I restrict myself to english broadcasters only -- I find our north american footy announcers to sound too much like they are doing play-by-play for an NFL game - and it certainly isn't a fit for the beautiful game. Gutted at England's demise in the 2nd half against Croatia. Not to be "one of those f...

Re: British Open golf tournament 2018

Round 3 on Saturday was ridiculously good conditions for an Open Championship, especially considering that Carnuste is considered by some to be the toughest links course in the world. It may not have the allure of St. Andrews but that course usually takes golfers captive for the tournament. Not drop...

This old world needs more miracles like this, for sure.
It has been fascinating to follow this story as it has unfolded. The fact that all were rescued with only a single fatality is indeed miraculous.

Re: Canada Day

Glad to read that they closed. I wish they did that here in the US too. I have one other wish about July 4th and that is it becomes part of a weekend. This year it fell on a wed, so of course tuesday is wasted because everyone is geared towards getting out early and thursday is shot because everyon...

Claire De Lune by Claude Debussy.

That classic and old enough to qualify as one of many favourite songs from the past?

This year, it fell on Sunday -- oddly enough, the stores were open on the Sunday, but closed on the stat holiday replacement Monday. Weird, I know.

Which is good for neutrals -- as well as fans of the 3 Lions. That's the one I'm choosing as my favorite now that we've come to the final 8. Well chosen, Gary. Southgate's lads are either young, exuberant and fun to watch, or overpaid, spoiled football hero-wannabes. Kane isn't the top conte...

Re: Face lathering and brush loading (soap)

I've always kind of done this hybrid method where I build up initially on the puck/cake of soap, then take the brush to my face. I got to this point as I focused on getting WMF lather right, and this is where I landed.

With the lavender/peppermint cake done, we are back to MWF. There is simply nothing like it.

Re: World Cup 2018

The round of 16 has been one of the best initial knock-out stages in the Word Cup in my recent memory. Poor Japan loosing on the last kick to a vastly superior, but clearly intimidated Belgium team. Today's England-Columbia hopefully will be a good one -- not that I am biased ...... Even thou...
