Re: Wild hair, taking up guitar lessons at age 58

I stumbled upon this great piece on YouTube entitled Mark Knopfler on Guitars - incredible what this man can do.

Anything sandalwood for me, and I particularly find Tabac an excellent fall and winter soap.

Re: The state of the current English Shaving soaps

The Mühle certainly looks identical in size and shape to the EJ puck I have. Mine is a few years old and still smells as good and lathers as well as the first day I broke open the box. EJ Sea Buckthorn is the only shaving soap I’ve truly come to terms with, but then I’m a dyed in the wool (never co...

Re: Tornadoes in Canada's National Capital Region

It is now reported that 6 tornadoes touched down in fact! 3 were in the Gatineau hills in what was termed "wooded areas" which is code for nowhere near housing or hydro. And everyone is glad for that -- another 3 in populated or industrial areas could have been beyond catastrophic. Monday volunteer...

Re: Tornadoes in Canada's National Capital Region

We have full services. Our end of town was missed entirely. Safety services have requested that everyone stay off the roads tomorrow to lighten the load on the infrastructure. Those without power who are reliant on the main station that went down in the south-west end, will be at least a week withou...

Tornadoes in Canada's National Capital Region

The past 24 hours have been quite interesting here in Ottawa. While we had to travel to Montreal for the day, I dreaded the drive home knowing we were potentially driving straight into the teeth of something very ugly and very unpredictable. Luckily for all our family in the area, none of us were in...

Re: Day travel bag

Wendell, if Tilley Endurables made bags similar to the Bean ones how would you decide? Am I correct in thinking you are asking which bag would I recommend????? All of them -- the small duffel is just an excellent go-to all-purpose haul-all / drag about bag. It really depends on what you a...

Re: Day travel bag

I use a few options depending what I need to be doing. LLBean small adventure duffel (we actually have one each in medium and large as well) - great for when you need to add stuff to your bag as you roam around the market, town, etc. Custom made 16" british school satchel in leather from Zatchels UK...

Re: SEMOGUE OWNER'S CLUB BOAR BRUSH

Great review. Thanks! I really like the Semogue 1305 boar already. I don't buy much in the way of shaving supplies anymore, but you have me tempted with this brush. - Murray +1 My 1305 may be loosing much of it's lacquer coating on the handle, and shedding a few bristles here and there, but boy-oh-...

Re: Shampoo that won't make my scalp itch

Itchy scalp is a common Dove shampoo side affect. I have used The Body Shop Ginger scalp care shampoo for the past several years. It's excellent and has never caused me any itchiness or other side effects.

Best of luck finding a product that works for you.

Re: Libraries

With the amount of public domain ebooks (most all classics, e.g.) available for free, I have not borrowed from a public library in at least 5 years. A few weeks ago I went in to take out a book or two, and was informed by the librarian on duty that since I didn't have a card any more I couldn't borr...

Re: New hat and trip to Buckaroo Hatters

A man can never have enough hats ...... This is a very nice one, Sam. You need to add a flat cap or two to your list -- although unless you are in cooler climbs, they can be a bit warm-ish. I was in a Barbour outlet the other day and had to really constrain myself to not buy one of their fabulous wa...

Re: Do I need a boar brush?

Of course, my default answer to the "Do I need" questions is almost always a knee-jerk reactive and emphatic "YES".

I have 7 brushes, 2 of which are boar. My Semogue 1305, while incredibly tired and very battle-scarred, it's a great latherer with soaps.

Re: What does DR Harris Arlington smell like?

I find it to be a light citrus-y based scent. I used to always have a stick in my kit bag for travel before my dive into simplification. I still have a half wooden bowl and about 2/3 of a stick. A very nice scent - in fact, I haven't tried a DR Harris soap that I haven't liked. Lavender, Almond and ...

Re: How did you discover wetshaving?

I recall posting something about this a very long time ago on SMF. For me it all started with my beloved Shick injector adjustable when I was 16 (1975). Kept with that model until I was a young father at 26 and switched to a Remington foil electric which I can't for the life of me remember the model...

Re: Ear muffs (sound reduction)

Ear plugs for me. My hearing loss isn't as bad as Chris describes, but I do have hearing aids and wouldn't be able to function in the mainstream of life without them. Nice to not wear them on occasion like when I am doing odd-jobs or flitting around out in the yard. Never when I cycle. I don't wear ...

Re: Back to a two-pass shave

Two and single passes both work fine for me. Days when I am at my client site are single pass days, two pass days when I have skipped a day because I am working from home or not working at all. I recently got back into shaving most Saturdays as well (I have always shaved on Sundays with us being wee...
