Re: Seven Blade Razor???? (and - Gillette compatibility chart)

I recently returned to using carts due to essential tremor--some mornings my hands are unsteady and the results weren't pretty. I figured with a multiblade system if I could get the cutting surface (plane) on my face without slashing it, I was in good shape. It has turned out to be true and I'm havi...

Re: An alternative to shaving every day

Back in the 70s I tried growing a beard (had recently got out of the Army and returned to college). After about 4 weeks it still felt uncomfortable and I have been a daily shaver ever since. For some reason I do not like the feel of stubble on my face. I even pack a disposable razor and tiny can of ...

Re: Are we there yet?

I'm probably at the end of the posting road. Why? Mostly time. I also don't have much exciting to say. I slowly use up products I picked up in the acquisition/experimentation phase. I have a few nice things to finish up but find myself gravitating to basic stuff that is frankly uninteresting, but fu...

Re: Amazing Arko!

I use Arko at hotel sinks around the world. I use it exclusively for travel and go through about a stick and a half per year (I travel ~40-50% of year). - Great lather no matter the hardness of the water - Easy to lather with any brush - I usually use a cheap synthetic brush while travelling - Clean...

Re: Monotony vs. variety in soaps and creams

2 thoughts.. - I spend 1/3 to 1/2 my year on the road. While traveling for work, even if up to 3 weeks or more, I never think about variety. I just reach for my handy Arko stick, single brush, single razor, etc. - At home I pretty much use one soap or cream at a time. Currently, I'm working on a puc...

Also looking for new badger advice

I'm considering Vulfix 2234 or Simpson Colonel. I mostly use synthetics. I want a brush with good flow through. I don't want to spend too much...

I'd appreciate your opinion if you are familiar with one or both of these ... or something else in this price range. Thanks!

Tabac

Back in Sept, during a business trip to Germany I stopped in a Muellers to restock my dwindling supply of soap. I was really after the inexpensive (but good!) stuff--Speick and Palmolive sticks. I saw the jar of Tabac at what I thought a good price, so picked it up as well. I've been working my way ...

Re: Acquisitions thread

I had gotten down to my last 2 pucks of soap (except for my stash of Arko which I use exclusively in my travel kit)... Well last month I had a 2 week business trip to Germany and came back with a good supply of Speick and Palmolive sticks, a tube a Speick cream and a puck of Tabac in the matching di...

Re: What's today's soap or cream?

I don't normally post here since I tend to use a product until it's finished, but just finished a large bottle of KMF--an accomplishment--and today started what I expect to be a very long run with Pre de Provence. It will take a few days to really dial in the lather but this soap works very well and...

Re: Questions about Taylor's Sandalwood soap

I recently finished a puck of TOBS sandalwood soap, veggie version. Easy to lather, great scent, good performer. I can't compare it to the lime as I've never tried that.

Re: I like it all...

Gordon, Thanks for the interesting background ... sure seems a lot easier to make this change in the internet age when info, even if only opinion, is readily available on every product imaginable. Also, although a trip to NYC sounds like fun, it's no longer a short commute, and I'm glad for on-line ...

Re: I like it all...

Maybe the way I started has something to do with it. Following the advice of a long ago little league coach who would not allow us beginners to trade gloves or try different bats, I used the same setup for a couple of months when I first started using a DE and deciding if I was going to change from ...

I like it all...

It seems like with a just a little bit of practice to get the feel of a brush or razor; or learn the properties of a particular soap or cream; I am able to get good lather and enjoy a good shave regardless of what I use for a particular shave. Even with blades, although I can sense the differences b...

Re: DRH's Arlington Pre-Shave: A Review

Yes. Coffee.

I also haven't found any pre-shave to make any difference in the actual shave. However, similar to the above use of the DRH, I do sometime use an old jar of Proraso pre-shave for a cooling aftershave.

Re: Best cream for travel?

I travel a lot (between 40 and 70% of the year) so I'll make a couple of observations. 1. Unless you're checking bags, your cream needs to be 100g or less to pass through security. Many of the suggestions above come in sizes over 100g, so if you use them, suggest a transferring some cream to a small...

Re: Big Synthetics H.I.S. and E. Jagger

Yes. All the brushes I have work with all the various products I've used. I think what I was referring to was more speed and ease of working the lather than the ability to make lather or even quality of lather.
