Re: Taylor Old Bond Street Avocado Cream gone hard.

I would just use it like a shave soap. It should still lather okay, not 100% like a newer cream though.
When I find creams that have dried up too much, I use them as bath soaps.
Works great and gives you a reason to get another tub of that cream.

Re: A Blast From The Past

I remember buying some pots way back as well. I loved this cream very much but hung on to some for way too long.
I had to chuck them out as they were harder than granite.

Re: Muhle R41 vs Merkur Futur

For me the Futur gives the smoother shave, with less irritation than the R41(newer 2013 version).
The older R41 is a real shark of a razor and I rarely use it. It is scary if you're not careful and can take chunks off.

Many thanks Clive, I still visit often, but don't post as much as I used to.
As long as some of us old-timers are still around, it's always a pleasure to 'see' everyone here. :D :D :D

Re: RazoRock XXX

the problem with the original xxx made famous around here by the long lost member fisherc, is that it set such a high bar, razorock was never able to reach it again clive Clive, that's my sentiment as well. I still have a tub or two of the original as well as a few of the second formula. I also hav...

Sam, I have that exact same brush. I'm just wondering why you don't like it anymore.
I love the feel of the bristle and the size is just right. Very similar to the Emillion everyone was raving about years back.

I'm also waiting on some reviews before I spring for the soap and cream. Knowing Taylor's I don't think one would be disappointed.

Re: Ming Shi 2000s Merkur Futur clone

I'm wondering if the knock-off folks are able to clone the Progress any time soon. I've found that one to be a good adjustable performer. Have a search for the Parker Variant Adjustable Safety Razor. I have one and it's pretty comparable to the long handled Progress. It's all metal, including the t...

Re: What soaps are still good?

I've used up a few lousy lathering soaps in the shower as bath soaps.
Better than throwing them out. It lessens the disappointment a bit I guess.

Re: Operating system

Upgrade to Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate. Very similar to Vista and a lot less telemetry sending back info to Microsoft.
I plan on sticking to 7 as long as I can. People are still using XP which is not supported any more but a lot lighter and easier to use in my opinion than Windows 8.1 or 10.

My 'latest' favourites: Tabac soap and Harris Arlington cream. I've been using both sparingly for a long time and have started to use them more often lately.

Re: For the Old Timers: Best Value* Wet Shaving Products?

I forgot to mention aftershaves. One can get decent aftershave lotions at 'dollar' stores for about a buck and change depending on which one you go to. I have 2 of them and one resembles Aqua Velva and the other resembles Mennen Skin Bracer. Same type of bottles and colour, and a nice lasting...

Re: Is/Was the Merkur Futur Made of Stainless Steel

I guess I better not use my Gold Futur too much then.
I also have the Satin one and I keep it on a setting of 2.5 but with a sharp blade. The duller blades tug too much with it.
The Futur gives me the closest shave with the least amount of irritation compared with my other razors.

Re: For the Old Timers: Best Value* Wet Shaving Products?

For a razor, I'd have to go with the Muhle R89. It's not too aggressive and not too mild. It's the razor I keep going back to. Taylor's creams can't be beat for the price, plus there's lots of variety in their scents. Some of the top notch hard soaps come in refills, which are a lot cheaper than buy...
