Re: Above The Tie M1

I have the M1 also. You're right about the quality -- it feels like a surgical instrument. Luckily, it is a mild razor without much risk of surgery. Of the three different handles that are offered by ATT, I find the Kronos handle feels the best in my hand, but the Atlas (smaller) and Colossus (large...

I've got the RazoRock DISRUPTOR. Terrific brush for only $9 -- a real beauty too IMO.

Re: supermax blades

I've used blades made everywhere -- some I liked better than others. Of course, I hoped to find some common denominator among the ones I liked, thereby making it easier to predict how other blades would work for me. I can't claim to have had much success with this ongoing quest, but one thing I've d...

Re: Any fountain pen users here?

Yes, that IS awkward sometimes. I don't think I'd have the nerve to leave one on my desk. One tip I got from a fountain pen user was to keep the pens cap in your hand and only offer the "business" part of the pen to someone if you simply must lend it. They may manhandle it and make me winc...

Re: Any fountain pen users here?

I have a small collection of fountain pens; a few Montblancs, a Parker or two, and several Pelikans (my favorites). None of them are legacy pens, and only a few are out of production so, no museum pieces, but very nice indeed all the same. I tend to favor Pelikan fountain pen ink -- I buy a bottle o...

Re: Feather Popular

the modern Wilkinson plastic razor gets better reviews but has a life span of as long or less then the feather popular. plastic parts with threading don't last long when a piece of metal is being moved in it. Very true. I posted on another forum about the Fine polymer slant razor. I mistakenly iden...

Re: merkur

Regarding Merkur handles in my experience, the Futur and Vision are the most difficult handles to hold even when dry, while shaving. The Futur even caused mild cramping in my hand, which was the only razor I've ever held that did that. Progress is better, and the 37G Slant is the best. I agree -- t...

Re: Hair clippers and cutting your own hair

That's an interesting mirror system, but if it's a buzz cut, and all cut to the same length, it's sort of useless. Probably worth more if a buzz cut isn't desired but some sort of styled cut is done. You are correct, in principle -- I'd given myself the buzz several times before buying the mirror. ...

Re: Royal Bank of Scotland: Sell Everything!!!

Well, here we are at the end of may and the financial wheels appear to be still attached. If there is going to be a meltdown in 2016, it will have to begin fairly soon, or else be sudden and calamitous. I too am counting on my trusted professional financial advisor to avoid any foreseeable danger (I...

Re: Hair clippers and cutting your own hair

Good for you Sam! I have had the Wahl corded clippers for years. My wife used to cut my hair, but as I'm retired and she isn't yet, I felt as if it was unfair to ask her to take on this extra task. I went to the local barber and paid about $15 for a buzz cut. I definitely enjoy shorter hair (I use t...

I know what you mean Sam, my knee felt that way for months -- as if it were on the verge of?? --- what? During recovery I favored my knee instinctively, and even after it was back to 99% and I was feeling pretty confident, I found it difficult to walk completely normally for quite some time. I no lo...

Re: Castle Forbes Cedarwood & Sandalwood Shaving Cream

I think that the mystery aroma is cumin. If you haven't got any in your pantry, the spice rack in your local supermarket will likely have it. I find that the Musgo Real shaving cream (original scent, in the tube) has a very similar fragrance. I agree that C&S is simply marvelous stuff -- as good...

Re: Comment on using up products

I'm trying to use up several shaving products -- mostly ones that are just OK, but don't quite measure up to the "Buy it Again" list. I've got two jars of Proraso pre-shave cream (one green, one red) that I am using as after-shave moisurizers until I've used them both up. I love Proraso pr...

Re: Great Razor / Blade Combination

I shaved yesterday with a 1947 Aristocrat sporting a Treet carbon steel (black) blade -- it was one of the best shaves in a while for me! I agree with the OP, a wicked sharp blade like a Feather or Polsilver or Kai in a mild razor is a lovely combination. I love my R41 and my Fatip, but an extra sha...

I agree about the 39C slant -- it doesn't deserve a reputation for aggressiveness. My R41 however, demands my full attention to avoid nicks -- I call that aggressive.

Re: cella and loading

That's one of the great things about Cella, or any other shaving soap having that "easily moldable" consistency. If you want to spring for a kilo package (currently selling for about $30 or less), you can mold it into any container you like, and shave for a very long time using a peerless ...
