Re: WSJ: Gillette "cutting" prices of razors
I don't think they could ever reduce the price to get me to go back to those multi-blade monstrosities. I gave up when they reached the 3 blade cartridge and went back to my old double edge. I put in a new blade every 5 or 6 shaves. Costs me almost nothing. Big Mac my foot. I save enough for a decen...

Re: Found at an estate sale
I, too, have given up on antique malls. However, I did luck into a gold plated Gillette black beauty at an obscure auction here at home (TN). Very small price. Second time I found razors at this location. Nobody there seems to know value of these old relics. My good fortune.

Re: Stealth Whiskers !
Is there any pre-shave routine that might help, anyone?

Re: One of my better ideas
When I shave outside with hot water, I only have the one source - the hot tap water in my tea kettle. So I have had to finish with a cold water rinse at the sink. Then I have to clean up the sink which more or less defeats the purpose of shaving outside on the porch - make a wet mess and walk away. ...

Re: One of my better ideas
This is probably old hat, but it was the first time for me. This year when I came back to shaving like my grandpa, I decided to go all in and start shaving on the back porch like he did. Of course, he did it out of necessity since we didn't have a bathroom. Winter shaving was done in the kitchen in ...

Re: Alum Blocks?
Like jrtaster above, I also developed a rash under my arm on the right side. Dr. decided it was yeast??? Took two months of oral and topical treatment to get rid of it. The difference for me was that I had used the alum type deodorant (not my alum block) for several years. It really worked for me du...

Re: In case you might have missed this ---
Well, if I used this "method", I could leave off the 30 minute cardio workout in the morning.

Re: The razors you like/use the most?
Most of my shaves are done with a Gillette ball end tech. Probably 4-5 times a month I'll use the Gillette NEW. I used a long handled super adjustable every day for several years. I find the thinner head of the 3 piece razors easier to manipulate around the "touchy" areas of my face. When ...

Re: The end of an era: Williams to be discontinued.
I'm not defending the Williams brand soap as much as I'm curious as to the chemical reaction of certain soap formulas to different waters. I've also noticed in the shower a fair degree of difference in the ability to generate soap on a washcloth. I wonder, other than the mineral salts that make wate...

Re: The end of an era: Williams to be discontinued.
I bought the Williams because it was available here in Tennessee. Don't know what kind of response I'd get if I asked the proprietor for Arko. I'll ask the wife to get me some samples of soap for my next birthday. As you can see, I am new here. I really enjoy reading the various posts about shaving....

Re: The end of an era: Williams to be discontinued.
I used the Williams soap several years ago (8-9) and also had a difficult time generating an adequate lather. I got away from DE shaving for a while and have only recently started back. My wife bought some fairly expensive cream soap, and I decided to get a bar of the Williams so I wouldn't use the ...
