Re: thoughts on lords classic blades

Lord has - as far as I know - three different types of blades: Super Stainless, Chrome and Platinum. The Super Stainless is sold as Lord Classic, Lord Extra, Lord Super, Shark Super Stainless, Asco, Big Ben and so on, but it's always the same type of blade - only the name and package differs. The Lo...

Re: razor aggressiveness help

I can't use open comb razors like the Mühle R41, no matter which blade I put in it. They simply are to aggressive, and for me this attrubute doesn't depend on the blade being used. I think a very sharp blade intensifies this, but nevertheless it's an attribute of the razor. Open comb razors are defi...

Re: razor aggressiveness help

In my opinion the blade itself is more or less sharp. The shave becomes aggressive when using a specific technique and a specific razor. For example if you use a Mühle R41 (open comb razor) with a Feather blade and hold the handle of the razor as near as possible to your skin (which will result in a...

That's because we don't know our lifetime and want to be on the safe side. Maybe we'll be 120 years old and run out of our preferred blades

Re: New to this forum

Today the Cella soap arrived. What a wonderful smell - my wife couldn't get her nose away from it :D I'll give it a try next weekend.

Re: razor aggressiveness help

I agree with Murray. The Derby blade (from Turkey) is considered to be a smooth blade, so when you put the Feather blade at one end of the sharpness scale I would put the Derby blade at the other end (certainly this does not mean that it is dull and you cannot get good shaves from it). We can disuss...

Re: Also new to this forum

So that's my preference so long as they are available. I think this in fact is something we have to consider. There are countries where shaving with a DE razor is still very common, for example Poland, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, India, South Corea and Japan. As long as we can buy the blades from those ...

Re: Also new to this forum

Thanks Men. I am committed to making shaving a little more pleasurable. Welcome to the forum! I think this is the best attitude. Normally you have to shave every day (or maybe every other day) so why not making this task more pleasurable and enjoyable? In my case the reason to come back to shaving ...

Re: hey I'm a new commer to wetshaving

I've been think of merkur 34c and 23c Edwin jagger DE89 muhle R89 In my experience all razors you mentioned work fine for sensitive skin. Edwin Jagger DE89 and Mühle R89 have the same head, there is no difference. This is - as far as I know - also the case for Merkur 23C and 34C. The handle of the ...

Re: New to this forum

Thanks for your advice. I really like the smell of almonds so I just ordered the Cella soap (the red tub, not the 1k brick  ) and will try it out. It's always a risk when I try out a new soap or cream because it's rather unpredictable how my sensitive skin will react. We'll see. Edit: This ...

Re: New to this forum

Hmmm . . . one would assume that particular ingredient would be the most obvious to leave out. Maybe they figured on it being a soothing/non-irritant? Maybe a chemist can enlighten us. As far as I know Menthol is neither soothing nor non-irritant. It is often used in cosmetic products to get a cool...

Re: New to this forum

I also prefer a wetter lather, it works best for me and gives me a closer shave. Today I had to find out that the white Proraso soap (for sensitive skin) contains Menthol. The list of contents on the package is printed in such small letters that I had to use a magnifying glass to read it. After havi...

Re: One pass shave

When rinsing off after the first pass I feel whether this is good enough to go or not. If I'm not satisfied I lather up again and do a second pass, in most cases on the neck only (my beard grows in crazy directions there). Because of my sensitive skin I never do more than two passes and never shave ...

Re: New to this forum

Thanks a lot for your friendly welcome! Yes, it's true, you can get the basics of DE safety razor shaving in a few days or weeks. When I was a young man I found it out by myself how to use that type of razor (my father and my grandfathers always used an electric shaver). But a good technique that gi...

After registration I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I hope this topic is the right one for that. I am 53 years old and live in Germany. English is not my mothertongue, so please be patient  When I was young I started wet shaving using a DE safety razor because the results of...
