Re: "Poverty meals"
I almost forgot scrapple and corn meal mush, hot or set up and fried. Before my mother passed and was feeling sickly scrapple was a treat that cheered her up.

Re: Do You Have a Favorite Vintage Razor?
You'd probably have better luck stropping the Feather carbon steel SE blades, assuming you're now using the stainless ones. If you strop a stainless blade, it's hard to avoid removing the coating, and then it would be harsh. I bought and tried the Feather carbon steel blades too. They strop a littl...

Re: Do You Have a Favorite Vintage Razor?
I have a bit of a collection of old razors. I use and like several but my favorite is the Valet Autostrop. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/Vintage_Valet_Auto_Strop_Safety_Razor%2C_A_Rather_Complicated_Safety_Razor_%2823403940856%29.jpg I do not like the Feather blade prices and j...

Re: "Poverty meals"
Sliced fried potatoes and onions in an overflowing cast iron chicken fryer skillet. My grandmother was the old timey WV cook who taught me. Bisquick drop biscuits with creamed chicken. Boiled beef tongue (which was dirt cheap then but $20.+/lb here) and Saltine crackers. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vG...

Re: Blade longevity?
5 shaves. Astra, Feather, or GEM blades. If I flip the blade over on the 4th use I can sneak 6 shaves out of a blade.
My shaving technique has greatly extended the life of my modern razor blades like the one I still carry in my travel bag.

Re: Stropping a VALET Autostrop?
oldjoe - I did liberally apply Neats Foot Oil to just the back of the older, dryer strop that I found. I was careful not to get any oil on the smooth front. It was impressive how much oil such a thin piece of leather can soak up. Since I have a spare strip I may try Neats on the front too. CMur12 - ...

Stropping a VALET Autostrop?
SO far in my adventures in antique razors I have collected several models by buying lots and estate sales. I ended up with 3 VALET Autostrops. These are about as SteamPunk as a razor can get and even though I did not hold high expectations I bought a pack of FEATHER blades and tried one. Despite wha...
