From the left; a Truefitt & Hill Simpson Chubby 3, a Kent H 12, what I am pretty sure is an old Rooney Persian Jar, an old Simpson #58

Re: Some Simpsons and Rooneys.
Found the two wanderers. The experienced Duke 2 is the fourth from the left on the top shelf and the Abraham Strauss AS-2 is the second from the left on the bottom shelf. It's neat because it's so different, kinda the Emporer's Tulip.

Some Simpsons and Rooneys.
Here are some Simpson and Rooney shaving brushes but I see a few have gone walkabout. There a keyhole off getting a new knot and another experienced Duke 2 as well as an Abraham Strauss AS-2 following Dreamtime. Top shelf left to right: Chubby 3, 2, 1; 50 Series 59,57, 56; two Classics; two Dukes Se...

Re: Tulip etc
I confess I'm very content with just the one. A simple and expeditious one early in the day and that's it for me. If I live to be 80 I'll call it a day and get an electric. Getting too close but really hope to avoid that outcome. Oh, being 80 would be fun but I'm not sure about the electric part.

Do you have a metric tap & die set? IIRC an M5 x 0.8mm should fix that right up.

Do you recognize this logo? Trying to pin down a Kent date
I've been trying to estimate a date for a Kent V-8 size brush but not having much luck. I think I remember seeing Kent V-series brushes when I was living in Phoenix which would put it in the late sixties and when I contacted Kent one of the people said he remembered that the V-series was being made ...

Some of my brushes are ones over a half century old now. Taken care of a brush will last a long, long time.

Re: The “Razor and Blades” Business Model
Before Gillette the model was created by a couple other people; Captain Emerson who was an early adopter of the world wide marketing through the general media for his product (BromoSeltzer) and William Painter who invented the single use bottle cap (Crown Cork & Seal) that allowed automated bott...

Re: Baume. Be black horse hair shaving brush
I don't know of any companies on this side of the pond that carry the Baume.be shaving brushes. I do love my Zenith 506 handle black horsehair brush that is similar and available. The Zenith 506 handle is available in white or black or kinda wood. Brush on far left is the black horsehair. http://www...

Re: Synthetic Brushes and Optimal Size
Almost all of my synthetics are more experienced ones made a half century or so ago. Most are fan shaped or straights. I also have a new RR Plissoft which is more bulb shaped but I don't notice much difference when it comes to using them. My older nylon brushes tend to perform very much like my boar...

Re: Some Fountain Pens:
What a stunning array of fountain pens! Fountain pens were still in use when I was a boy (I turn 66 this month), but they were already rapidly losing ground to ball point pens. I always liked them and I had a couple of them handed down to me. Today, I have a number of nice fountain pens from Mont B...

Blooming Boars
Just as with Badger or Horse Hair brushes, the knot shape, the design, the bristles themselves and how the brush is treated will determine whether it blooms or not. Generally thicker bristles or straight shape knots will bloom less than fan or bulb shape knots. All Boar knots soften with use as the ...

Re: Single edge razors Colonial aluminum Black
My one criticism is when you loosen the head it becomes exstreamly loose. After I shave I loosen the head for cleaning but you cannot loosen the head just a little. Just loosen the head a quarter turn and the water from the faucet starters spinning the head, I do not have this problem with any othe...

OCtober 2017
The Month in Review: This month was a series of comparison pairings with Open Comb razors that was broken into two parts. In the first Phase five Gillette OCs were paired with five newer OCs. Surprisingly, the newer razors actually came out on top in three of the five pairings. http://www.fototime.c...
