Re: Lavender

Adhoc, that's Yardley's (more or less) unisex Old English Lavender cologne. It was mostly offered to ladies but at many times to men. It is not the English Lavender offered specifically for men (many times in a box with the classic shaving soap). Looking at the color I think it's sundered. I bought ...

Re: "That Lather"

FYI, I didn't drag out the Palmolive today being Mother's Day.The reason is I didn't have the time I'd like to take and dial it in. I just reached for the Taylor's to be sure. Maybe tomorrow as I have to find it. I will say this, I am extremely grateful for the soapmakers' posts here helping me to l...

. . . and then add whatever it takes for Penhaligon to make English Fern, or for Trumper to make their Violet.
I'd pay for that - wouldn't you?
I'd go bankrupt!

Re: "That Lather"

OK, you guys are making me drag out the bowl of sliced Palmolive I have. Like Dr. Moss I sliced one up but put it in an empty wooden bowl. The thing is I thought this one gummy for some reason and sort of wrote it off. Anyone else find it gummy? Maybe it's my hard water? I'll let you know how I fair...

Re: Lavender

In my experience it's sundered if it's not clear like water. I have had several bottles of this and unless it's clear like water it's turned. I don't know what it is, maybe exposure to air? But the bottle that is clear like water is usually unused and still sealed from the date of manufacture. From ...

Adhoc, my condolences. What is the color of that juice? Is it clear like water?

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, great report. It's interesting to see how such a thing evolves. I am at your service. You can send me the soap whenever you think it's ready. In return I will send you back a cake of virgin Taylor's so we have two data points. Do with is what you want, it's your to keep, I'm just grateful to be...

Re: "That Lather"

Yeah, what Gary said. The old Taylor's goes right to the creamy lather. Don't know why but it does.

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, in response to your post tonight I went down into the bunker here at the Chateau and retrieved a box of an unopened cake of Taylor's Old Formula English Lavender and I can confirm those ingredients. They are exactly as written. These cakes of soap were only the ones offered in the wooden bowl a...

Re: Spam?

Brian, yeah, you have said much of what I have been told. We had a Latin professor in high school who told us in plain language that bologna and the like are all "lips and @ssholes". Brings back memories. I'd like to get to the state of making my own stuff one day but right now it's just not in the ...

Re: Spam?

I got a can of Spam this weekend and one of the hickory smoked version. When we got home it was lunch time so I tried a slice of the regular Spam. Somehow it's not what I remembered but OK. I guess being single and hungry somehow made it taste better/different? It's got to be prepared like detailed ...

Re: Lavender

EL Alamein Thank you, Ill keep an eye out on Ebay but I think Ill purchase a bottle of the italian version of Atkinsons as well! Ive seen vintage NOS of Atkinsons too which I guess is the American version (?). Adhoc, yes, the U.S. version of Atkinson's will *usually* be marked NOS if it's unused. I...

Re: Lavender

Well, everything comes around again I guess. Adhoc, the only way to obtain the old U.S. version of Atkinson's English Lavender these days it to monitor ebay. I comes up every now and then and sometimes at exorbitant prices. It's distinguishable from the Italian version by the bottle. The bottles of ...

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, Gary, and Clive, thanks so much for this. It's nice to know that some Firms are moving in the right direction AND that there seemingly is a manufacturer willing to make their soaps that way for any firm that signs on. My guess is that the said manufacturer would also entertain variations in the...

Dr. Moss, I hope you get what you desire. Tim is a great guy and, yes, he got shafted.

My best wishes that he will rise again (and you benefit from it)!

Chris

P.S. I think the servicing of our pastime is in the consolidation phase in many respects. It does not bode well for anyone.

Re: "That Lather"

Tim, excellent observation. It had not remembered Harris' ingredients and their similarity. I think my cake might be slightly different as you mentioned the various formulations and mine is probably nigh a decade old (I can't remember right now). I share your nostalgic experiences with regards to th...

Re: Vetiver

Gary, I hope you enjoy the journey exploring vetiver. It's certainly a "love it or hate it" scent. I personally like it and especially in Spring. A little off-topic but Guerlain has a great story about how it's vetiver fragrance was created. It had to do with Jean Paul's boyhood memory of a gardener...
