Re: Seven Blade Razor???? (and - Gillette compatibility chart)

In the days when I used multiblade razors (yes, there was such a time, but it was long ago*) I was quite happy with three blade Sensor, and found it better than the Trac II. They should bring back the Sensor!

*I just had a flashback to the intro to Noggin The Nog from 1959:

Re: Back to the Hart razors

I finally managed to raise Tim, and a giant ¼ hollow in 01 steel will be made. I've suggested 8/8 or 17/16, and I'm hoping he will treat it to a hardness of 63. There's a lot to be said for not going for harder steels, principally ease of honing, which might have to be done a little more often than...

Re: Vetiver

LeLabo? Is that the same rubbish my wife keeps bringing home from Fairmont Hotel bathrooms? Rose 31 is the label. Basic fake rose scent and barely functional product (maybe there are restrictions on downtown hotels as to how much actual soap and detergent they can put into the non-existent Toronto s...

As it always does - nicely. After using them back to back, I don't think they are the same. Maybe the old chatter about them was wrong, or maybe it was another pairing of soaps?

Re: Homemade Face Tonic/Aftershave

I had a friend in Toronto who was strongly interested in blending colognes. I have a bottle of a mix of incense and oudh scents that he created that is quite stunning. Sadly, he drowned in the Turks and Caicos islands earlier this month, so I can no longer ask his advice on such things. He proved th...

Re: Lavender

Welcome, although starting out by asking for a follow-up to a 12 year old thread is wonderfully optimistic! Atkinson's of Vancouver continue to offer the things that pass for Plisson brushes these days, and some Edwin Jagger soaps and creams. No more Joris/Plisson soap. No English Lavender either. H...

Re: "That Lather"

I just used the Irisch Moos, and I'm finding it very hard to imagine it is even related to Tabac. I expect the scent to be different, and it is, but the cakes of soap look wildly different after a couple of years of intermittent wetting and drying (one smooth and homogeneous, the other rough with lo...

Re: "That Lather"

Oh, you're probably right in that it was Tabac and Irisch Moos that were siblings. I agree that the Palmolive stick was right up there as it sits under the Moos and the Speick at the same end of the same shelf. Perhaps the common factor is that shaving sticks are old-fashioned, and thus likely to be...

Thank you, Chris. I've made the update to the signature per the rule. That said, I was actually looking for a way to donate to the forum. I believe the time, effort and hosting costs could be compensated, if people find the establishment beneficial to them and choose to do so. Thank you for your qu...

Re: "That Lather"

Is that a good thing or a bad thing, Chris? I remember the old T&H as absolutely top tier, but years and many other products and lathers have passed in the interim, and the newer T&H stuff is awful. I wasn't very impressed. A rather thin and 'crisp' lather, not the shiny, gooey thick stuff I like. ...

Welcome to SMF. Might I point out that we have some rules for vendors, and this is your polite notice that much as we are glad to have you, we would still like you to comply with them. Rule 4 of the Posting Guidelines says: 4. Vendors are asked to make all posts that constitute self-advertisement in...

Re: "That Lather"

I used my old Salter soap yesterday and I'd swear it is the same as T&H (or at least, as T&H used to be since that's probably changed too in the interim).

Re: "That Lather"

I poked around in the shelves of shame today (I used C&E Sandalwood soap for the shave and was wondering what to go for tomorrow). I found one of my generic eBay wooden bowls labelled Cyril Salter soap with a barely used cake of what smells exactly like the old T&H soap. I must have been content to ...

I gratefully accept your rebuke. Politics is generally dynamite to a forum, but some instances are just so stupid, I can't help but break my own rules. There's a lot more to be said about this issue, but I will refrain if you will (OK, even if you won't!)

Re: "That Lather"

So 50% olive oil, 10% coconut, 10% castor oil and 30% stearic acid sounds good? All saponified with KOH? Shall I add the superfat after the cook, and if so what would you recommend? I don't mind the scent of olive oil and I'm a complete klutz at adding scents, so I probably won't try. I need a proje...

I don't know that Private Internet Access as a VPN does what it says. I'm currently connected as being in Montreal, but if I go to Google News it serves me District of Columbia as my 'Local News'!
