Re: MIA...my apologies

Yeah, that would have been uncouth for 89 clubland. They might have washed your change and returned it, as in ages past, though. No Otto of Roses shave soap refills nor their old English Violet shaving sticks down in the cellar then?

Re: My fragrance journey so far

Sam, this is an acceptable early posting. Welcome home kindred spirit...welcome home! Thank you for ALL the generous details, but I don't see a bottle of Floris No 89 hair lotion. I got that covered. I had never seen the Floris Bay Rum so that is a delight to behold. I had a sealed in cellophane bot...

Re: G.F. Trumper Rose Soap

The saddest part of it all is; I used to buy the tallow Trumper refills for $18.95, and I just don't want to talk about it at this point. I heard the initial reformulation was fine, but they had to go and obliterate...I guess. Why can't they just go back 8 years and make all right again?

Re: A FEW ODDS & ENDS...

That's right Gordon & Tex...the pre-Vulfix Simpson models only offered in 'Pure' grading were: Beaufort - Eagle - Rover {and oddly their giant display brush} The Samson. Their least expensive brush was The "Special" offered in Pure or Best. It came in one size though. Even in 'Best' The Special was ...

Re: Ok, fall and winter scent time

I've been wearing Caswell Massey "Tricorn" from a small vintage bottle I had. Also, been using a bit of the old US-blended Atkinson's "Royal Briar" cologne. Will be moving on to vintage Floris No 89 hair brilliantine for the colder (sigh) days ahead. All nice scents that have given enjoyment.

A FEW ODDS & ENDS...

Hello. I want to sell off a few items I don't use. Therefore: I have a Simpson "Eagle" (3) size shave brush. It is a pre-Vulfix one and has been used about half-a-dozen times. In it's orig. box. Next, I have a Trumper "Warwick" razor handle for Sensor carts. It is stainless steel & gold accented new...

Re: Nice brush from Marshall Fields

Just the lamp blacked designation for Marshall Fields perhaps? There is also that Simpson 'quirk' of the Brit English (S) on the handle, for sterilised, and the 'Z' (American variant) on their boxes.

For those that have used the stick for awhile, would you say it's unscented or the 'cologne' scent? I've never tried the stick and was curious if there are any bergamot, citrus type notes?

Thanks.

Re: The Simpson Inner Sanctum ...

Thank you for taking the time to record & share these videos Mark. Something I would also be interested in, is a bit of history/lore of Progress-Vulfix. Progress & Vulfix were two separate brush firms correct? I think their histories even pre-dates Simpsons? Any interesting/obscure handles from the ...

The Marshall Fields brush looks like a Simpson "Commodore." The Macy's one appears to resemble a Simpson "Special."

Just my handle hunch.

One tablet is set aside. I'm just a sloth...what? One more thing; interesting to me, about their vintage soaps, is they had Whale & Turtle oils in their blends. If people are agitated concerning tallow today....

Re: Hair dressings, a couple questions.

Here is another classic one from that era. Do you remember Stacomb Pete? It had the same look as the Lucky Butch Wax. You guys should really seek out the Master krew comb, as the ingredients are a bit different & non greasy. Lastly, that's the Denver Broncos helmet from circa. 1960. Why the hell not...

Re: Guerlain Lime?

I sure wish I did have a chance to own a fresh bottle of that, as I'm certain, it was the finest compounding of perfume-grade oils and all. Just another good one gone no doubt. Another regret would be: I never had a shot at their bath soaps in the more traditional scents. It's all too depressing rea...

61004.jpg Hi Chris. I'd never heard of the Grant's ,so thanks for mentioning. One more that I want to try at some point is by Imperial Barbers out of L.A. They have a few different ones, priced similarly to the price you quoted. I've used their Bergamot after shave all Summer, and it's a steal @$10...
