Re: In case you might have missed this ---

OK, Squire, I'll believe you but I don't want to. But only because it's you.

Squire, maybe it's like pornography, hard to define but I know it when I see it.

Re: In case you might have missed this ---

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Gordon, of course you would know and good that you do. I knew he was not the guy who pushed Vegematic or several other "wonderful" devices that would work marvels for him but wouldn't when I tried them (my wife, who is quite mechanically talented had no better luck) but I had no ...

Re: In case you might have missed this ---

I hate to seem cynical but I wonder if the camera was on fast forward when he was shaving and/or he had a blade or a blank in his razor. I simply don't believe anyone can shave that fast. I know that if I tried I would have the Band Aid people working overtime and I am not a person prone to nicks or...

Re: One of my better ideas

Gary: sounds like you hit it right ... for you. I am retired and can shave when I want but I still like to shave in the morning as I did for so many years. My beard is fairly normal ... maybe very slightly heavier than normal ... and I find that by the end of the day I can feel whiskers in the corne...

Gary: use both soaps and see how they perform. If one is lousy, you will know; if both are lousy you will know; if both are good you will know.

Re: One of my better ideas

I think I picked up the morning shave tradition from my dad who always shaved in the mornings before he went to work. I suspect he picked that up when he was a US Army fighter-pilot in WW! ... yes WW ONE, It followed him through life after that and when I began shaving I just did what he did without...

Re: One of my better ideas

I shave every morning because that's what I have done all my life. When I was working if I had shaved at night I would have looked like hell by noon the next day (my beard is normal heavy) and my clients would have thought I was weird (and when I began working in an office in 1950 or so I would have...

Re: Finally-Got my Birth Year Super Speed

About as close to having a razor my age is an old Canadian razor Gold Gillette razor that was made about 1933 (I am 1930) that I somehow collected during my early work with Gillette. It comes in a gold case with a blue lining and it is a two-piece razor. It includes a gold blade case with four old (...

Re: Finally-Got my Birth Year Super Speed

Not put too fine a point on it but I would be using an 83-year old razor so 50-60 is for kids. Seriously, I am quite happy with my Futur which gives me terrific shaves using a pedestrian Derby blade. In fact, Derby's seem to work better for me than any other blades although I get terrific shaves wit...

Re: Buckingham Palace Shaving Cream

Thanks JR: I just took a hiatus from posting although I have periodically lurked a bit now and then. While I am interested in shaving because I decided years and years ago that if I had to do it for the rest of my life I would try to make it something interesting or that was at least a bit fun. What...

Re: Finally-Got my Birth Year Super Speed

I was born in 1930 and I have no interest in shaving with a 1930 razor. I'll stick with my Futur and my Power ProGlide. My son was born in 1970 and I happened to be in London a few years later and found out that 1970 was declared a vintage port so I laid down a case of 1970 port of the year he was b...

Re: Comparing Razors

jr/john: Quality control has to be a priority with any company planning to stay in a market over the long haul. If products not do what they are supposed to do we will not buy them or if they stop doing what they are supposed to do we will no longer buy them. The North American auto industry is a pr...

Re: Comparing Razors

Gary: You're right, a lot of younger men (my son is one) go around with some stubble but I have to believe this is more for "style" than anything else and it will not last. The reason I think it won't is from what I hear a lot of young women do not find it pleasant to be kissed by men with stubble b...

Re: Comparing Razors

Pete: I have no idea how long a Power Fusion razor is supposed to last. I have one that is two or three years old and it works fine. However, an earlier one I had stopped working because of some problem with the battery connection so I tossed it out. However, in my time consulting to Gillette the on...

Re: Trac II success

Kingfisher: One reason ... probably the single most important reason ... TRAC11 was so successful was that it made shaving sort of "mindless" for most shavers. It was virtually as much of a razor breakthrough in ease of shaving as the original King C. Gillette safety razor was. While this is clearly...

Re: Comparing Razors

It was more than a quandary Squire because it hit the bottom line: the profit per razor on disposables is very thin compared with cartridges or DEs so while Gillette picked up female/male market shares at a small perunit price it lost 5% of the male market for the higher profit cartridge and DE busi...

Re: Comparing Razors

Anyone who has read my posts knows that I have no use for disposable razors of any kind. For my tastes they are too light, flimsy (no matter how strong the plastic), and as a result I don't get a decent shave using one. I know some people like them (everybody other than a few die hards who bring the...
