Re: An evening shave

Squire, of course you're right but borrow is just an euphemism for stealing. I try to be polite.

Re: An evening shave

Squire and sweet it smells. To borrow shamelessly from the famous line in "Apocolypse Now" "I love the smell of money in the morning. It reminds me of victory!"

Re: An evening shave

Squire: It wouldn't have been for me when I had to go see clients. They expected me to wear a suit and look like I had not spent the night chasing whiskey and women and that meant shaving in the morning. And since they paid the bill I conformed. If I were still working I would do the same. And yes, ...

Re: An evening shave

I have shaved in the morning for about 65 or more years and hell will freeze over before I wet-shave at night. Back in the days when I was working I kept an electric razor in the office for those occasions when I had to go out after work. I don't like to use a DE or cartridge razor more than once a ...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Gordon: I suspect you are right and distribution does not necessarily equate to sales volume. My point about the wide distribution (over 150 nations) is that I was surprised the firm was that well known outside of the UK and various shaving fanatics. Perhaps they like to give the impression that the...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

I use Trumper creams because I enjoy using them. I can get an excellent shave using Gillette's canned cream but I don't enjoy the process as much. To stretch the point a bit, using Trumper or whatever-the-preference versus canned cream is like the difference between kissing a pretty woman and one no...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Squire, as I recall my first trip to Trumper on Curzon Street was in 1969 and they had barbers upstairs and downstairs working. I began with Mr. Clark (always Mr. Clark) downstairs and as the years went on he was promoted to the main level ... which in terms of Trumper prestige and positioning was a...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Rufus: In terms of Pound for Pound, Euro for Euro, Dollar for Dollar, etc. TOBS is the best value, at least in Canada.

Unfortunately, I don't like it all that much and the same with The Body Shop.

I wish I did.

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Gordon: Good stuff and I'm glad you remember what Squire said he told you. I found out privately that Trumper products are available virtually around the world and I was surprised at how wide their distribution is. It suggests to me the company may be larger than some of us think it is ... sort of t...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Squire: I wonder how many of the firms are privately owned. I think Trumper is and I have tried to find out about the other
high-end firms but can't find anything. I would also like to know their comparative sizes and distribution.

Any insight?

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

While price per ounce is an important and effective way of determining local comparative prices it is only one factor in determining why prices vary from country to country and product to product. To place local prices in perspective it is useful to compare the prices in the country of origin as a b...

Clive: tell me about the scuttle and the Israel chicky, too, whom I presume makes the scuttles.

I am always interested in products that will make shaving even better than the ones I use.

Craig: I have the small size Moss Scuttle that I ordered from the maker in Nova Scotia (I think). I use the small size because I do not use large brushes. I love it.

Re: MDC in paris query

Squire: I have found it better to cuss out a Paris taxi driver in German unless he is from Alsace and then you can get in deep trouble. So, I ask if they speak German and if they say "non" then I go at them.

Re: First-and last-Scuttle

I'll make it straight and simple: the single most important thing I've learned from being a member of SMF is that there is such a thing as a scuttle. Before I joined some years ago I had never heard of a scuttle. About 5 years ago I bought one and have since given several to others. If mine were to ...

Re: The finest barbershop in the world

I have been to Milan twice on business and driven through it four or five times on my way to other place and never knew about this place. I wish I had because I would have gone there. Now, because my travelling days to Europe are likely pretty much over I doubt I will ever get there. But, should I e...

Re: Taylors Rose shave cream....Today

Gordon, I guess you didn't read the fine print on the Trumper's packaging that says if you use a competitors Lemon-Lime cream within 30 days of using Limes you will get a weeper three straight shaves and you are especially not to use any Trumper's Rose within 30 days or something even worse will occ...
