Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps

Having a look at Soapworks website reveals a few things. Firstly, they only work with vegetable bases and are also heavily into palm oils for their soap bases. Soap Bases We source numerous opaque, translucent and speciality soap bases from around the world, including Sustainable Palm Oil base. All ...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps

I was told a while back that Standard Soap Co. made Trumper's soaps but they closed about a years ago. You'll find that they are now using this particular soap manufacturer, as are one or two other well known names here  http://www.soapworksltd.co.uk/our-clients DGB452, That is a great find. ...

Re: Need pillow advice

Being a life long stomach sleeper I always have a heck of a time finding a decent pillow. I buy them after handling them at the store only too find them to be too firm or too soft when I get them home. I've just about worn out my current pillow from washing it, so I guess that the hunt will begin ag...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Craig, There are no specific age requirements for a whiskey to be labeled "bourbon," as long as other requirements are met. To be labeled "straight bourbon," whiskey must be aged at least two years (along with other requirements) and, if aged less than four years, must carry a specific age statemen...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Chris, What Squire said. Squire and Lanolite, I used to work for one of the Willetts, John David (JD) who co-owned a beer distributorship in Northern Kentucky. He told me that his family had fought in the Revolutionary War and was distilling since that period. They moved to Kentucky after the Whiske...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Interesting to note that despite there being umpteen brands of bourbon and rye on liquor store shelves, there are only a few distillers making bourbon and rye these days. Many of the brands that you see are in fact the same whiskies, bottled at different proofs and ages. Sometimes they are identical...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

The Michter's that I own was produced in Pennsylvania, it was sold under the A H Hirsch brand. I worked for the company that purchased all of the remaining stocks of Michter's bourbon in bulk. It was stored at the Ancient Age distillery (now called Buffalo Trace) in neutral glass lined steel tanks a...

Re: Comparison of Current Popular Shave Cream

Gordon, Countess Mara brings back some memories. I used to wear Countess Mara ties back in the 80's and early 90's, they were of very good quality. You don't find ties like of that quality very often these days. Could that whiskey have possibly been Mitcher's instead of Mitchell's? Mitcher's was one...

I used Mike's Lime this very morning, it's the finest artisan soap that I've used, and the lime scent is first rate.

Grey Flannel

I was in Walgreens this evening and noticed that they had Grey Flannel on sale for 50% off, so I purchased a bottle a bottle on a whim. I originally wore this cologne in the 1980's, it was the first 'grown up' cologne that I ever wore. I put some on tonight and was pleasantly surprised by how much I...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps

Gordon, a poster at B&B wrote that Floris and Penhaligon's soaps were being made in Tiverton. I started doing some sleuthing and discovered the name of the company and conformation that they definitely make the Floris soaps. Here is a link to Broad Oak's website, and two articles that confirm that t...

Re: Italian Almond Croaps

Thanks for all of the great replies Gents. I had forgotten about Valobra being available in almond, certainly a well priced option, as is RazorRock R160, available for a modest $10. Boellis Panama 1924 sounds great but a bit more expensive at $50, although it is for 250g of product.

Italian Almond Croaps

Gents, I'm at the end of my sample of 3P Almond Shaving Soap that Brian generously gave to several of us. I've really enjoyed this soft soap, but before I reorder more of it I was hoping that some of you who have posted about using other almond scented Italian soft soaps might share the brand names ...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps

Same here Gordon. However, as you have read, there are reports of somewhat better performance from Pen's recent soaps, so this is an encouraging development. It might be a sign that the brand owners are hearing our complaints. I've heard of recent improvements in Floris soaps as well, and as I wrote...
