While I love the new R41 head, the knurling on the handle is a disappointment. Like James, I've put my Ikon handle on it. The best thing would be if Ikon made an R41 head in stainless steel. I'd be in shaving bliss then.

I personally like the shaves the new 41 gives me. I noticed that it leaves my face feeling 'velvety' like my better str8s do. The stubble-out time is about the same as a str8 as well. I've not noticed any 'thinning' with str8s or the 41, but then my skin is fairly tough. FWIW, I'm using Astra platin...

I've tried various inks, but seem to return to Noodler's. Their Legal Lapis is frequently used, but the Navajo Turquoise is a lovely bright blue.

Experience with str8s will be very useful with this razor. For those shavers who don't have str8 experience, go very slowly and cautiously. This razor will draw blood if anything is not perfect.

That, or they used the previous (milder) version. The new 41-C can leave stubble after one pass, but will take it all down in a standard three pass shave. It was almost 24 hours before I had some stubble. This equals the best str8 shave I've had. I think I now have my ideal 'safety' razor.

You might want to look into the Namiki Vanishing Point fountain pen. The interior 'cartridge' (nib and reservoir) is only about $30. It's the most quickly deployed fountain pen design out there. The nibs are remarkably smooth.
