Re: Do You Have a Favorite Vintage Razor?

You'd probably have better luck stropping the Feather carbon steel SE blades, assuming you're now using the stainless ones. If you strop a stainless blade, it's hard to avoid removing the coating, and then it would be harsh.

Re: Muhle head thread on Gillette handle?

I was NOT able to thread the EJ head into either of two post-War (undated) thick gold-plated Tech handles. I WAS able to thread the EJ head into a pre-War thick nickel-plated Tech handle (from a Tech with triangular slots). Was there also some incompatibility between the different Tech heads and ha...

Re: Muhle head thread on Gillette handle?

The threads should fit fine. With some NEW heads, the diameter of the top of a handle might be too big to fit in the space available. But going the other way - putting a NEW handle on a Muhle head - should work fine.

Re: Michelada

Oh, sure, I was just getting an idea of what they were. I've never had one, but now I know enough to approximate one at home, and then tweak the recipe to taste. I suppose some bartenders use a recipe from a book, and others made it unique, maybe not even making it quite the same every time.

Re: Gillette Tech blade matching

I'll start with an adjustable or Rocket or Super Speed (maybe a good opportunity to try a blue tip), or a Tech. I tend to use a blade until it gets uncomfortable. (It's usually still able to remove hairs all right, but it starts to pull.) Then, even if I'm in the middle of a shave, I'll replace it. ...

Re: Muhle head thread on Gillette handle?

It should work. That head fits most DE handles. So many of them have the same thread. Or are you just wondering what the shave is like?

Re: Michelada

I would guess that V-8 would work, too. I agree that a "standard" North American beer would work for this, but in the last 20-30 years there has been a vast emergence of craft breweries, and now at the point where they are driving each other out of business or getting acquired by the big breweries. ...

Re: Gillette Tech blade matching

I just got some Nacet blades, so I'll keep this warning in mind. Is there a razor where the Nacet blades work better than that?

Re: Gillette No 58

Have you tried a Super Speed or Rocket? Maybe a blue tip or black handle Super Speed. The Razorock DE1 is very inexpensive and has gotten some good reviews; I'm tempted to get one myself, after buying several Razorock heads for low prices. Their Mission head is supposed to be on the milder side. Oth...

Re: Seven Blade Razor???? (and - Gillette compatibility chart)

Yes, I have seen fancy handles like that, including some from Edwin Jagger. There are also fancy (and not fancy) handles with multiple blades incompatible with Gillette. And now the Mach 3 and Fusion are old enough (so some patents expired) that you can also get cartridges from other manufacturers. ...

Maybe try a Derby in it... A Feather might kill you. :)

Re: Ask and ye shall receive - RAZORS. And BLADES

The third shave with the Personna med prep/hospital blades was the best (a very good shave), maybe because it was "broken in," and maybe because I was using an early Gillette Rocket, which I've always liked.

The blade easily shaves quite close, and no irritation if I'm careful with the pressure.

Re: Shaving with a Schick Type D Injector and other early injectors

I just got a C2 injector, so I now have at least one of each type except for H, K, and O. (I sold a K, and sold my new O's years ago. Sold them too soon, judging by what they sell for these days.) I have a fair number of E's, G's, L's, and M's. They mostly came in eBay razor lots, and I never got ar...

Now I'm also seeing two other Derby blades - ones in a blue pack, and ones in a black pack ("Premium"). Any word on what these are like?

Re: My New Kind of S.A.D. - Slant Acquisition Disorder

The handle on the GBS slant no longer holds my Razorock Mission head together, so it's back to the seller it goes. The thread pitch matches, but the diameter of the handle threads seems to be at the high end of a range, and the post on the head is at the low end. Since other handles work OK on that ...

I think this must be a Type E, but I thought that the pebbled-texture head was found on some Type G models.
