Treet also makes some DEs. I saw them at Giovanni's site.

For me, it felt more like it was trying to pull my whiskers out instead of cut them off. YMMV.

Why is this?

When I was using a cartridge, the first shave from it pulled on the beard and then it settled down for about six more shaves? Now that I'm using a DE, it is smooth from the start! I remember from my days as a machinist that your tools could be too sharp to make a good cut and I would have to knock t...

Refurbished Electronics?

I have bought a couple of refurb items lately, a video camera and an MP3 player and both were pretty good buys. I have seen some good deals on LCD TVs and I am just a little more cautious about those. Heck, it almost seems like if I wait a few more months the new ones be be down to those prices! Hav...

Williams Menthol Creme

Yes, Creme. I'm in Brussels and I found this tube of Williams Menthol Creme--It is alot like Palmolive but not quite the same. I thought it might be more like Prorasso but no such luck. Everything else here is mostly the same cartridge-goo assortment. I did find Swedes in 10-packs for around 6 US do...

Nivea Sensitive gel

I have to go to Brussels next week on business and wanted to take a pared down shave kit so I picked up a can of Nivea Sensitive shave gel. I gave it a try tonight and was fairly impressed. I usually use Prorasso. I did a pre-shave with Noxema and then put the gel on. It turns into a better foam tha...

Treet Starline & Feather DE

I'm looking for a backup/travel razor and was wondering about the Treet Starline or Feather DE. How about the Derlin razor? How is the quality on these?

Thanks,

Rev. Jim

I got one just like this from Martin. After trying several others, this is the one that works for me. (Thanks again Martin). The long handle is really a plus for someone just getting into DE. Enjoy your new razor!

Tim, I like the Prorasso pre/post as an aftershave balm but I haven't tried the stuff you mention. My favorite was the original Lagerfeld aftershave balm but it is no longer available. I just ordered some Pino Silvestre and some Tryphon Mentolo from Giovanni. Next order will include the Prorasso you...

I'm pretty happy!

Long handled black Gillette adjustable
Astra Keramik blades
Vulfix brush (2245?)
Prorasso shave cream
Noxema for pre-shave

I just need to find the right AS/ASB

This site has been great---my razor and brush came from members here and I found the other products via this site.

Hey Sam,

Although some people don't care for pre-shave creams, they do wonders for me. I rub some original Noxema into my beard and let it sit there for around five minutes before I lather up--I usually brush my teeth in that five minutes. Give it a try and good luck.

There was a woman cutting my hair for a while that told me of a Mexican barber shop on North Main that did great straight razor shaves. I'll see if I can locate it and let you know. I would be interested in trying it myself. I had heard at one time that traditional black barber shops did straight ra...

I remember an item for sale in the '80s for those that wanted the "Don Johnson" look. It was called the Miami Device.

I really like my DE but I think that the Sensor was a really good razor, probably the last good one they made at Gillette. I still have mine. Good luck!

What was that teeny DE razor that Cary Grant used in North by Northwest. It was supposedly a ladies razor. Was it a real razor?

Of all the blade Giovanni sent me the 7 o'clock was the best but he still hasn't topped the Astra Keramik. I cannot say enough good about that blade. It is now MY blade.
