for me there are two cushion extremes. the new proraso gives me the least cushion of anything i have used. mwf has so much cushion i can sit on it! almost  I got a tub of the new Proraso a few weeks ago and have shaved with it maybe half a dozen times. Almost no cushion, at least how I've been...

Cushion - Soaps vs. Creams

Having been mostly a creams guy (Taylor, Trumper, T&H) for the last few years, I've been trying a few soaps (Cade, Dr. Dittmar, Taylor lavender, Trumper violet). From a cushion perspective, do these soaps offer a little less cushion than high-end creams? So far that's my impression. Maybe it's my te...

Thanks, sounds like a good choice. I want to try Dittmar's and two pucks cost $22 (single puck offering is out of stock), so to get free shipping I figured I'd find something for $10 or less. DVH fits the bill.

Thanks John. There are two versions at Royal shave. Did you get the basic one or theExtra Fresh?

I hear Dittmar has either no scent or a basic soapy scent, which is fine, though I likes scents.

I've got my eye on Dr. Dittmar soap from Royal Shave. Now I'm intrigued by the other soaps I see there, including this one. What's the scent? Is it tallow based?

WTB: Dittmar Shaving Soap

I'd like to try Dittmar shaving soap, but don't want to buy the two pack (the single puck option on the RoyalShave site is out of stock). Does anyone have a single puck they'd like to part with? It could be used.

Thanks, Mike. Looks like the Frank brush is the way to go. Yes, I can trim off the hot glue, or most of it (it's glooped up into the bristles some). And with the knot out of the handle, I could shoot some hot glue into the hollow handle to give it a bit more heft.

Frank synthetic vs. Body Shop synthetic

I just got a Frank 21mm synthetic brush. During the first test lathering, the knot fell out. Turns out it was glued in with hot glue. The knot by itself lathered well and felt great. If I can't get it replaced, I may use the knot in a small brush restore. Unfortunately, the hot glue was sloppily app...

Lathering Trumper soaps

I just got a puck of Trumper Violet. Love the scent... more subtle than the cream, which is just right. I've had no problem lathering with it, but the lather doesn't seem to perform quite as wonderfully as Trumper cream. Seems not quite as rich. Is this a matter of spending more time with it, or is ...

SOLD: Ever-Ready brush with Whipped Dog knot

I'm selling a restored Ever-Ready brush with a 20mm Whipped Dog silvertip knot set at 50mm. The overall height of the brush is 4-9/16 inches. The hollow handle is filled with epoxy, so it has some good heft. You'll note that the cream colored section has some slight discoloration (see pics). This is...

Taylor Almond is a top performer and considerably more affordable than, say, Trumper Almond.

What other scents appeal to you? Not shave cream scents, but scents in general? Do any colognes appeal to you?

Prep. Take your time and soften your beard, it makes all the difference in the world. This is mine as well. Many guys I know slap the lather on and immediately start shaving. Then they complain about razor burn and how their skin is so sensitive. I tell them if they do nothing else differently, get...

Omega vs. Proraso soap

As I recall, Omega and Proraso shaving soaps are supposed to be identical except for the packaging. I just picked up a tub of Omega soap in a redesigned tub, and to me, it doesn't smell exactly like Proraso soap, though I'm basing this on a tub of Proraso I had years ago. Seems more subtle. Plus the...
