Best oil to restore a wooden shaving bowl

I have a Trumper's tub and the rim has dried out. What's the best oil to rub into it to restore the sheen?

Do you mean wipe tha cavity (or maybe fill it) with some sort of oil? If so, what oil do you suggest?

De-scenting a Trumpers soap tub

Is it possible to de-scent a Trumpers soap tub? I have a rose tub but don't want to have rose in it, maybe violet instead. I've rinsed it a few times, but it's still a little rosy.

I shaved with the 200T synthetic this morning, bowl lathered with T&H lavender. The synth didn't build lather as readily as my silvertip, but I eventually worked up a good amount of lather. Painted it on, and it was silky smooth. I am definitely going to have to practice lathering with the synthetic...

I couldn't wait and did a test lathering with Taylor soap. My first impression is that it is fairly boar-like, lots of backbone, whipping up lather pretty quickly. I had read that it is not a lather hog, that is, it doesn't hang onto the lather deep inside, and this was the case. I painted on the la...

Another Ever-Ready Restore

Hello, all. Thought I'd share a pic of my latest restore, an Ever-Ready 200T outfitted with a Golden Nib synthetic 20mm knot. I had wanted to drop in an 18mm badger knot, but when this arrived from eBay, it turned out to have a boar knot set in a thick plastic collar, which was set in the brush, so ...

Would leaving a tub of cream open for several weeks accomplish the same thing? Reason I ask is that I don't have a dehydrator, but I do have an empty shelf! I have a tub of Taylor Lemon & Lime that is pretty dense and firm, and I like that consistency. I have a spare tub of T&H Lavender that I'd lik...

Will Proraso cream dry into Proraso soap

Just curious... if I put Proraso green into a tub and left it out, would it dehydrate into a soft soap?

Do you know how strong the coconut scent is? I don't get much coconut scent from Trumpers.

Ditto. One of my absolute faves. Nice to know that the FDA sees no risk using it, though in my case, there is a risk: addiction!

SOLD: Semogue 1305

I have a Semogue 1305 that I'd like to sell or trade. It's in perfect shape, been used just a few times. I'm on a brush restoration kick, so am selling stuff I don't use. I just noticed that the paint is not perfectly level (see pic), so I'll sell it for $9 shipped. I'd also be open to a trade for a...

Golden Nib silvertip vs. silvertip grade A

Can anyone contrast the Golden Nib standard silvertip and silvertip grade A knots? So far I've just used the grade A, which are wonderfully soft and nicely packed. I think I might want to try something slightly different, but still want super-soft tips.

Masterpiece DE Sighting

Tonight I watched a Masterpiece movie, "Endeavour," which was an early case of Inspector Endeavour Morse. Very good movie, by the way. The story took place in the mid-60s, and in one scene, then detective Morse was shaving with a Merkur 1904.

Dave, congratulations: It looks like you have an excellent brush on your hands. Did the metal ring complicate removing the old knot? Did you leave the ring in place or take it off? --Glenn Thanks, Glenn. I knew from a post that the ring was the top of a cup that holds the knot. So I knew I would ha...

Semogue Badger Refit

I love the Semogue handle, but my 1250 wasn't quite doing it for me, so I refitted it with a TGN 18mm silvertip Grade A knot, set at 46mm. Used it this morning and couldn't be happier with the result. Here's a pic. Dave http://www.shavemyface.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10406/normal_Semogue_Badger_2...
