That's a fantastic brush and a fantastic razor, Oscar. The pic is really nicely done, too.

That is a lovely picture and a lovely location, Chris. Quite an incredible coincidence, too!

I do hope there's no reason to think your wife will need this home soon.

Re: What is it about brushes?

Rufus, I concur regarding many of the handle colors that are popular right now. Some of the swirl patterns are lovely, but most are actually pretty garish-looking to me. Faux ivory, faux ebony, faux horn, jade, and wood look great to me. I agree that brushes are more than just a tool. I feel the sam...

Re: Project House

Good luck! Be very careful around electricity. Enjoy the journey. Denver has always seemed like a very cool place to live. I leave most electrical work to others, but I can do little things - installing light fixtures and such. Denver is great. Unbelievable parks, 30 minutes to the foothills and mo...

Re: Project House

Clive, it's just vinegar, but as I said, it's 30% acetic acid, not the 5% stuff from the grocery store. I bought it at an Ace hardware in our neighborhood - it's become my favorite store. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and although the prices are a bit higher than Home Depot, I can actuall...

Re: Project House

We were in Central Texas, just north of Austin (Georgetown). Heat and humidity is right. Before that, Dallas for over a decade. I can only imagine living in the Houston area. Exponentially hotter. The absence of humidity in particular is a welcome change. Cold and heat are both more bearable without...

Re: Brush of the day

Gary, I notice the SilkSmoke gets more use for you than the Synbad restore/reknot you did a few months back. Do you mind giving a little info on whether you prefer the Silksmoke and why? I am enjoying my Synbad but do like the look of the Silksmoke knot.

Project House

A house (and yard) full of projects: this is my, er, lot in life, it seems, for the time being. We moved to the Denver area last July, and it is, to understate things, a seller's market. We bought less house for far more money than what we had in Texas, and the house has some age and mileage on it. ...

Re: How's Everybody Doing?

Jim! Great to see you here! I remember your Eastern Smooth blog and your contributions here. I was sad when you disappeared from the forums, mostly because it seemed you followed a similar arc to my own, veering away from ADs eventually and becoming a bit disenchanted with the collecting and accumul...

Well, Gary, let us know how it goes. I have a shady corner that I will need to do something with eventually, too. We are quite a bit farther north, though, and in a much more arid climate. Still, any and all data points are good.

What is it about brushes?

I have set aside soap AD. I still try something new now and then, but it's mostly just my homemade stuff and the Speick and Palmolive sticks I have in reserve. I have whittled the razor collection down over time and see no reason to use anything other than the Rockwell 6S going forward. I like havin...
