I voted bowl but I reserve the right to face lather:

If I'm rushed.
If I didn't shower first.
If I'm using soap rather than cream.
If I'm traveling.
If I'm using a shave stick.
If I just feel like it.

Straight razor shaves can be really nice when everything is right.

I can't compare much to a DE cuz I haven't used one in over 40 years.

For me it is easier to get "perfect" lather in a bowl. Also, bowl lathering is easier on the face for several reasons for those with sensitive skin. On the other hand face lathering is much faster and doesn't require as much hardware clutter (the bowl). Also more forced contact with the beard and fa...

The scrubbing from the brush doesn't seem to be the problem for me. It is more of a chemical sensitivity thing. I have this one shave soap that I really like. Works really great for me in all ways except it burns just a tad on my skin. When I face lather I can feel the strong "paste-like" concentrat...

Shaving On a Cruise

I packed three straight razors, a shaving soap stick, a small paddle strop, and AS in luggage and flew Continental to Seattle. Boarded Holland America Westerdam and cruised north to Hubbard Glacier. I shaved every day and twice on formal dining nights. I ended up only using one razor and I even loan...

Bowl vs Face

It would seem that hydrating and working the soap into lather in a bowl would be an advantage for sensitive skin. With face lathering the soap is applied to the face in a more concentrated form, stays on the face longer because of the hydrating time, and requires more scrubbing of the face. Anyone e...

On the surface it is amusing because of the candid horseplay, naivety, and confusion. If you look deeper you see more. For one, there is a conspicuous absence of the mutual contempt that so often creeps into marriages after decades. Hubby is fooling around to lesson the apprehension presented by his...

Awsome the way that turned out!

(I used to think the big blades were just a waste of steel. However, I find I prefer them these days.)

Great movie. I like it more now than as a child. Several years ago we were watching monkeys in the trees along the Silver River in Florida. There was a five year old girl with her folks in the boat next to us, and she was very upset. Her parents explained that they had viewed the Wizard of Oz a few ...

He's a stoic, for sure. I wonder if he's yet decided whether he wants that particular album or not, by now. They must have told him to not look at the camera and don't move from the corner! In the second video she is performing at night under a tree in the rain. The guitar is dripping wet and she t...

Wallis Bird

I dig the singer-songwriter genre. Take away the glitz and the band and the hype and see what's left. In this case... a great deal! Wikipedia: ...The first time Bird came into touch with music, she was six months old and received her first guitar from her father. Born left-handed, after losing 5 fin...
