I know very little about brushes. I assume that the one on the left is the bulb shape and the one on the right is the fan shape. Am I correct? What are the purposes/advantages of each? Is one shape considered superior for creams, and the other for soaps? You're correct in identifying the lofts. Lik...

I've always liked my sample shave stick of Juniper EO from QED. Hmm, maybe I should see if Charles has got any in inventory. :)

I got two so I could get both horn colors and loft shapes. Looking forward to using these.

Saint Charles Shave, Mama Bear, QED, & Barbiera Italiana all offer shave sticks -- apply it and shave or apply it and lather with a brush. Great selection of scents too.

Squire,

If you're interested, maybe we could make a trade of creams or something? I could send you some of the TR DL.

Yes, I've tried it (TB DL). It is a nice cream with a great scent, IMO. Of course, scent is so subjective. I would say if you like patchouli, this is one to try. The cream is highly whipped, and comes in a taller jar than say the 3Ts. The formula does not dry my skin either. Chris Fischer and Klaus ...

Mike Ratliff reported on a CS Filly #13 (he was honing it for a customer) that appeared to have a flaw in the edge (heat treating maybe?). It would not hone up, and the hold the edge at the heel of the razor.

(You may be able to find his post about it on SMF with the search)

Frank Warner Custom Straight Razor

I took receipt of my second custom straight razor. For this one, I commissioned Frank Warner's talents. I was fortunate to get my order in when I did, as he's got several he's working on right now (mine was one of six -- first one completed). As you can see it came in a wooden box along with a certi...

Those Filly razors are pretty hard too. It may be a case that you're not removing enough metal to get to the final edge, and winding up polishing an edge that's not yet quite "sharp."

I don't have experience with either the ToBs Eaton College or the Claus Porto scents, so I can't help either of you there. The MR AdC No. 3 reminds me of CD Fahrenheit, but isn't as heavy -- more of the upper, lighter notes. I think it's a good idea to smell them before you buy them (whenever you ar...

I have all three of the Musgo colognes... #1 (Orange Amber) Decent scent, but not really for me. Is not a citrus scent (to me) despite the name, but does have the "orange" smell. #2 (Oak Moss) Very clean, green scent -- great for summertime (IMO). It always reminds me of a freshly cut gree...

That it certainly does. I saw the Jemico re-branded dovo strops so it seems safe to assume that it's a re-brand of the Timor. Thanks so much for the help! Have you ever used the Timor? Yes, I have; I used to have a Timor "Blue Steel" 5/8, carbon steel. It worked just fine -- nothing fancy...

It looks to me like a re-branded Timor (Giesen & Forsthoff) razor. That is really the only other mass manufacturer in Solingen besides Dovo (though Boker is starting to ramp up with razor production again).

Bryce,

The scent is definitely green to me, as opposed to grassy or hay-like. Maybe something more like clippings from flowers or bushes -- if that makes sense. Come to think of it, it would probably match well with Musgo Real's No. 2 EdT (Oak Moss) which ahas a note of bell pepper to me.

I'll recommend her Fairway scent. It is a mild "greeen" scent, so it should be fine with your AS/EdT.

Actually, you don't see strops a lot on the B/S/T forums. Probably the two best options are Tony Miller (www.thewellshavedgentleman.com), followed by Illinois Razor Strop Co. HandAmerican is an option, but it can be difficult in making contact.

Böhler is a European-based steel manufacturer, I believe. So, it looks like the maker was trying to relay the quality material used in the blade by an established (high regarded?) steel manufacturer. I've had a couple of unknown maker Solingen razors, and they've all performed well with consistent f...
