Re: Joke of the Day

Jim Gaffigan on gifts: “I can’t believe we’re still giving clothing as a gift. Cause whenever you get clothing as a present, you always open it up and you think, ‘Not even close.’ And the person that gives it is always like, ‘You can take it back if you don’t like it.’ ‘That’s alright. I’ll just thr...

Re: Sharpening Kitchen Knives

Same here Brian. It's too late for me, but maybe sometime soon some brilliant and open-minded genius will come up with a similar electric sharpener that can put a wicked sharp and smooth edge on my favorite straight razor. It's all science and technology. There'll be a small clique who'll laugh smug...

Re: Kitchen knives Sat Apr 14, 2018 10:26 pm Ever since I first read this thread I have been very curious about the Chef's Choice diamond hone knife sharpener. My daughter had asked me to sharpen her kitchen knives that had been given to her when she moved into her own home and had to get the kitch...

Re: What is the best meal you've had at a restaurant?

Most recently, for our youngest child turning 30, the three of us drove 280 miles west on I-40 to Amarillo. That's where the Big Texan is located. They brew around 12 of their own beers. Our daughter and I ordered a flight of our choice of any 4 of the house beers and for $6 we each received four gl...

Re: Older guys and mild razors

It seems the General SE when loaded with a Schick Proline or Kai Captain gives me some smooth results, and I have learned that a new blade will bite if I get a little careless. After 10 shaves, they both mellow out while the shaves continue as always very smooth and irritation-free.

Re: Great smelling shampoo

Since we used up the Body Shop product, and because the local stores quit business, we didn't order more. I've drifted back to using bar soap for the time being. Next time I visit my barber I might remember to ask about some of whatever it is she uses on her customers. It's something minty and seems...

John that's a part of our beloved SMF. One's good, rwo's not likely. Offsite imaging sources are the way to go for multiples. I'd like to see the finished product. 😃

Chris, I would be proud to accept it from you, considering the history and the amount of planning and work you have invested in this unique treasure of a razor.

Re: Alum Blocks?

For the past 6 or 7 months I've been trying to use my straight razors for 3 or 4 days during the month just to stay in practice maintaining and using them. I've enjoyed it a lot. As a result of 3 or 4 daily shaves in a row with open razors when I'm not used to it, my face becomes quite sensitive due...

Re: Against the grain

Just checking in to report the XTG thing is working better and better now that I've got the razor/blade combo on the right track (see below). One lather pass against the grain followed by a splash of hot water after the lather's gone and a random multi-directional pass for touching up and smoothing ...

Re: razorpit with SE razors?

I may have known what these are in an earlier scenario, so I watched the video on YouTube and now I know. I don't use one, and maybe it works for the cartridge razors. A couple of years ago I began to use the AC single edge Schicks and Kais in my General, and I throw them away after 30 days and repl...

Hmmm --- something to think about. I suppose there are some things we should do, but don't, as opposed to some things we never thought of doing. Eels in my water?

This is an easy one. ebay; Classic shaving; Maggard Razors; Naked Armor straight razors. Not from my memory, just a couple of seconds logging into google.

Re: Razor recommendations for shaving your head?

My plan for no hair on the head is working brilliantly well. I do nothing except keep on having birthdays every year, and I'm almost to the point that the hair is completely gone, requiring no mechanical processes whatsoever. It seems to be an automatic biological process.
