Re: Do I need a boar brush?

I have all sorts of Somerset Simpsons and other brushes I once found delightful. These days, though, an Omega boar is just what I look forward to with each shave. Silly, really, but there you are. Similarly, I spent a kings ransom on badger brushes and ended up settling on a couple of semogue and o...

Didn't they change to lid stickers at some point from having the logo printed directly? Might be a clue as to vintage...

Edit sorry I misread the op- some googling suggests trumpers never actually switched to label stickers like TOBs et al.

Re: English Fern tallow soap by Penhaligon's

I remember it seemed outlandishly expensive at 20 quid for a puck and 30 including the wooden bowl. I'd bite your hand off for that offer now:)

Re: The state of the current English Shaving soaps

Any recent purchases/thoughts?

I'd use my wetshaving time machine to stock up on vintage trumpers rose. The scent was unique and even the bowl shape was ideal. There was at one point a veggie version that was pretty good, but it seems even that's a thing of the past, alas?

I'm making a big presumption that "repairing" a badly shedding knot is probably considered a hare-brained crackpot idea that would only originate from someone like me. One would tend to think replacement is the most common-sense practical course of action. If it becomes evident that a rep...

Gary,
I wish you well with this, but think you'd be better of sending it to Bernd (Mr. Shavemac) or one of the artisan handle makers. Even if you're really handy, these chaps have lot of experience taking brushes apart and putting them back together. Good luck.

Muhle R41 (circa 2009), every day of the year.

In the past I used a Merkur Slant daily for about a year, so I suppose they're my two favourites.

WTT (my) Lijun 2-band Finest brush for (your) puck of soap

Its this one I have: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=221006079267 24mm knot. Handle the same quality as Shavemac or Simpsons. The knot, less so. Its very very densely packed. Wall of badger effect. The tips are pretty soft and tbh its not that dissimilar from a couple of ...

The student may be inquiring about how much of the reading is available online. I have spent a lot of money on books only to later find all the stuff available for free download.

Re: Please tell me about Trumper Rose soap

With all the reformulations, I admit to becoming a bit lost! My current tub of Trumper Rose soap is over half gone. Doubt that what I have is tallow; too new for that. When the time comes I hope to buy a refill puck. But I have read of reformulations and re-reformulations to the point that I do not...

None for me for almost a year. Used to shampoo my greasy hair every day as soon as I woke up. Made conscious effort to do less often. About 3/week with a very small amount of shampoo. Then I started washing my hair with Olive Oil soap. This was better. Soon after stopped using even that. Now just wa...

I like the 'soap in big bowl' :)

Any thoughts on the TOBS Lavender generally, lather, scent etc?
