Buzz, I quite agree re. natural materials generally (though I don't own any ivory meself). Wood, horn etc are just not great materials for a tool that's going to get wet every day. I certainly do see the appeal of them aesthetically and can't help but covet some of them - but would, like Fido, keep ...

Joe,
Potential for a good thread - it'll require some participation from the great hoarders though : )

Well, I suppose I'll add some requests:

Oddly enough, the aftershaves are very simple. I rate them highly based on the ones I have tried. Used lime today in fact. Never tried the soap. I would like to see them make a simpler recipe with less chemicals. Perhaps something like a stateside version of MdC. For sure. Also when you look at som...

It's certainly a case of YMMV and the difference is hair splitting - no pun intended. I happen to prefer the finest over even the vintage HMW or the Somerset Manchurian. The reason is that finest had a long tapering loft unlike the competition. It may be bleached as are the competitors but who care...

Very nice brush. Why did they stop? Good question. Some say the Rooney Finest hair really was a the finest hair available - and no longer is (available). Other experienced brush collectors say the modern two-band hair from Simpsons and the like is essentially the same and all the claims about unobt...

Hey all - thought I'd resurrect this thread as I've been pondering how fickle my fidelity can be. QCS, good as it is, has hardly been in my rotation as of late. I've really been hooked on my TOBS shave cream and have been using it almost exclusively for almost two months now. And I've acquired the ...

Rooney Finest and massive Plissons...expensive tastes

Add an Omega boar and that looks like a perfect rotation for the next ten years.

Palmolive, made in Deutschland. Yardley was made in the factory that was until recently still making Trumpers, TOBS soaps etc, and is now closed down.

Palmolive lathers a bit like Tabac. I wish I liked it more, as its virtually free here (£0.48/stick).

Louis, I agree. I shaved for many years with my Gillette DE and canned Barbasol ( or similiar ) and still could. I get a decent and non-irritating shave with this combination although it is not as close as using a brush and high quality cream/soap to produce a lather nor is it nearly as aesthetical...

If these don't lather, I'll send them to GFT and demand a full refund, or credit/trade for some creams or something. It'll be well documented. Following up, they lathered quite well (see Teiste's post in the S/T thread where these soaps are posted). So I won't be bothering GFT this time around. Gar...

Which is more important, razor/blade, or lather/preparation?

Quite a few here use cartridges, and some even use gel or some other new fangled lather stuff. Overall though, I get the impression a lot of members consider the brush/lather/prep to be of more importance than the razor and blade. I think I'm in a minority here; using a good DE razor and blade was t...

Sam, It seems Yoga would be great for your health overall. After a while maybe you can start walking or even cycling or swimming. Weightloss is about calories in versus used; even if you were running hours a day your appetite would increase more or less proportionately, so there's no way around the ...
