You know Mike, that's such an utterly simple idea and I think that will help. Tomorrow, I'll try lathering one side of my face at a time. Good idea.

I hadn't thought of changing the lather any either. Another good point.

Not sure what the $5000 stunt was all about.

I paid the same or less than the previous poster. It's my go to razor but I do go back to the Gillette Slim Adjustable periodically.

ah, ok. I've been DE'ing for what 3 years now? I started with soaps and have dabbled in creams after the first year. I like them all I guess. I switch back and forth based on mood. I guess that's the norm around here. soaps in order of use; -col conk lime glycerin (dried my face out) -VDH deluxe -MW...

Around here there is a trend of being scattered in the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands. I'm not sure it's legal but it happens, the local self named "river rats" like their river.

yep, I clean my Ikon classic with a soft toothbrush during the blade change.

My brush I pretty much fill my bowl with water and "pump" it to wash the lather out after every shave. I stop when there is no trace of soap in the bowl water. I'll take a closer look at the knot though.

I have an early second generation classic with the open comb. It's my favorite razor and the quality on mine was and is perfect. I recall the gen 1's had some issues with blade gap hence the gen 2's. I don't see items over $30 being given away free to make up for a customer satisfaction problem. Tha...

I love the smell of coconut.

The trouble with coconut scent or a lime coconut scent is I'd want something coconutty to eat or drink.

The old coconut oil suntan lotion brings me back to my youthful memories that I will not share. I tell ya that scent brings back some fond fond memories.

and the worst part is the blade wouldn't sing.

yes I am kidding about the butterknife blade. I did press a couple red lines into my chin this am. Just a minor issue with depth perception.

Well I'll order some and send some your way. I did see a site that had lots of 50. I think that was blades and more, or something along those lines.

ETA- In the name of SMF science, I'll send you 10 Personna Lab and 10 Personna medical if that would be sufficient. They're now ordered. :-)

Thanks Squire. I still have a lot of practice and fine tuning to do. Definitely feels a bit awkward yet. Kind of like that first week with the DE after leaving the cartridge razor behind. I was thinking perhaps I need one of those butterknife sharp straights like they use in the movies to practice m...

Squire,

Have you reviewed the Personna Medical (Hospital Use), Lab, and Barber blades that have become all the rage?

I'm curious to see where they fall with the feathers and my standby Russian Gillette 7 o'clocks in the yellow box.

I need to get on the ball and order some myself.

I'm glad this thread was resurrected, because I wasn't here at SMF when it started. After experimenting with bowls of different shapes and sizes, I've decided that the ideal container for mixing lather from either cream or soap is a deep, wide-mouthed mug with a rough, textured finish instead of a ...

There was a hunting/fishing camp on Cranberry Lake, NY that had a similar chair on the dock of all places. IIRC that one was probably a dentists chair as it had a head rest which wouldn't do for a barber chair. Anyways it was pretty comfortable to sit in to have lunch while taking a break from fishi...

I like that smooth white porcelain but I didn't find how big it is. Hard telling in that picture. That and it's $45 on sale, regularly $59. I wished I still lived near the VT border. That's likely something I could pick up for $10 at their outlet store' bargain basement. Oh I had some major steals t...

Well my first straight razor shave is done. I probably did too many passes for a newb and I'm a little raw on the chin. yesterday I picked up my package from the post office and of course by the end of the day my dexterous hand went all wonky and was swelling so bad I took a few Rx pills. Oh great I...

Nice score!

The ones I saw in the local antique stores I wouldn't cut rat chewed mildewed jute rope with them. They looked like they came out of a junk drawer of an abandoned barn and likely did.

I hope so, I'll keep you advised how it works out. I got an email that they've already shipped. Can't beat that with a stick. I opted for a "good" one as I might not develop SRAD. I even stopped on the DE razors, I'm pretty darn happy with my Ikon classic and use the vintage Slim Adjustable when I f...

OK, I did order from Don and Lynn.

I got the boker 5/8 with brown Micarta scales and a basic latigo strop and some chromium oxide paste.

Hope that covers me for awhile.

Not sure whether to call it a belated birthday gift to self or an early Christmas gift to self.
