Hi, Thanks for the scoop - I'm going to try a different aftershave tomorrow morning and see if that does it. I tried it again this morning and got the same result - since she told me it smelled OK at first, I don't think it's the balm itself... some chemical not agreeing with my body chemistry perha...

"Changing" scent of Proraso?

I'm a relative newcomer to Proraso, but got some disturbing news from my girlfriend last night - she told me that she liked its scent at first, but it seemed to sort of "change" later in the day to something somewhat metallic and not very pleasant. She said it was just with that particular product -...

I was in Darwin, Australia when some planes were flown into some structures... September 11, 2001. We packed up and left in a matter of hours and high-tailed it over "there". I spent just a little over a month if I remember correctly on land in Camp Rhino, Afghanistan. No running water. No hot chow,...

Wow, those are some gorgeous razors! I'm getting the feeling that Joris doesn't make anything except an open comb type razor though - how different a shave do those provide than a "standard" one? How old is that Kirby? How about that Leresche? Is that one an open comb type? Thanks for your time, Scott

I'm an active duty US Marine helicopter mechanic - we deploy aboard amphibious assault ships like the USS Tarawa (now decommissioned) for months on end. Been all over in my 15 years time in service. My uncle was in the Navy - I can't remember on which ship he was stationed. I want to say he was on a...

French safety razors

Are there any current-production French-made safety razors? I've heard that some of the old Gillettes were made there.

Thanks for your time.

When on a fine Navy vessel...

...and the water barely trickles out of the faucet... I found during my last overseas "adventure" I got pretty decent results out of my L'Occitane "Cade" soap and "L'Occitane" scent aftershave. I also got excellent results from my Trumper's Sandalwood - topped off, of course, with a dab of Sandalwoo...

WOW! Today was my first shave with MWF and - amazing! :)

I have a couple more items on the way but so far I think MWF is at the top of my list! Getting a good technique down and accumulating a couple new razors to add to my rotation right now.

Thanks again for your help!

First shave with MWF! I'm hooked! :) Amazing scent and super smooth shaving - even from an average blade! I encountered absolutely NO issues building a nice lather, even with my cheap AOS badger brush. Occasionally gave it a nice quick dip (barely touched the surface of the water, that is) in some h...

Hi there,
Thanks for the scoop - looks like something of a challenge - I like it! :)
I don't think I'll be trying to hone it myself or anything just yet - perhaps I should get back into practice with my old "Henry Martens" or DOVO first.

Thank you again for your time!

Hiya, Thanks for the heads up - found that they apparently were originally from Cincinnati, Ohio and in 1861 released the first barber supply catalog. I've also found three different addresses listed for them - perhaps from different eras. The one listed on my razor, the 202 S. Clark St address, doe...

Hi guys, Thanks for the help - I posted a couple questions to the straight razor section of the forum today. I was perusing eBay and found a couple of nice SE GEMs - the 1912's are the ones with that patent date right? I also found some really nice Gillette Super Adjustables - is there a big differe...

Henry Martens?

Hello all, I have a vintage "Henry Martens" straight razor and don't know / haven't been able to find any info about the company. It's marked "Henry Martens Hamburg Ground" on one side of the blade and "Kraut & Dohnal 202 S. Clark Str Chicago" on the other. It's also marked "Made in Germany". Has an...

Thiers-Issard and the Newbie

Greetings, I'm looking to eventually move to the world of straight razor shaving - been wet shaving with a DE for a couple of years now. Although I already own two razors, I'm intrigued by Thiers-Issard's line of razors - what are your thoughts? I currently own a DOVO and vintage "Henry Martens". I'...

Greetings and questions - newbie but not... sort of.

Hello all, Checking in - been wetshaving for a couple years now and have some questions. I'm using the somewhat maligned Art of Shaving supplies and want to "move up" - been reading lots of good stuff about Proraso gear. My current lineup is: *Art of Shaving pre shave oil, shave cream, and after sha...
