I also thought that the Trader Joe's was made by Alba noting the similar tube shape and color but if you compare the ingredients, they seem to be quite different. The Alba sells for almost twice the price of Trader Joe's at Whole Foods Market. Two soaps are on my future short buy list - Col. Conk Ba...

Most Under-Rated Shaving Cream or Soap in Your Arsenal

While I am new to this forum, one of the brushless shaving creams that I have tried based on a smattering of SMF forum comments has been Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave. Most recently, Brett G declared this cream his favorite inexpensive locally available brushless cream under the ...

Tony,

One last question. Do you know of any place I can buy the Col Conk in California other than online?

Tony, Glad to finally hear from you. As you can see from my first post in the General section, I credit you with my purchase and enjoyment of a shave brush - even if it is but a Burma shave brush. I gave an early post of yours on the benefit of a brush a lot of thought and finally realized that I ne...

While my experience is also limited, I have to agree with Twelves. So far, the Taylor's Rose cream seems a bit overrated because the scent is mild in the tub and almost non-existent on my face with less protection than Nancy Boy, Proraso, and Trader Joe's and is more expensive than all three alterna...

I like a little variety and so I am working on finding a small rotation of favorite creams and soaps. So far, I am more comfortable with the HD Classic straight rather than the slant bar razor.

Gordon, Thank you for the insights. I have been a bit frustrated since I seem to like most of my brushless shave creams (Nancy Boy, Proraso, and Trader Joe's) better than the Taylor's Rose. I get a good shave with the Taylor's Rose and it lathers easily with my Burma shave brush with a bit less prot...

I own both the Merkur Heavy Duty Classic Straight Bar razor and the Merkur Heavy Duty Classic Slant Bar razor. I started DE shaving with the straight bar razor five weeks ago and I was getting great shaves after about a week. The straight bar razor is by far my favorite for giving me a great shave w...

Thank you for the reply Dr. Moss. The ingredients for the Nancy Boy soap from their website are as follows: Olive oil, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, purified water, saponification agent, natural essential oils. A Google search on saponification agent and superfatted leads me to believe that this soa...

Anybody Try Shaving with a Premium Bath Soap?

I have been using a DE razor just over a month now and have pretty much stuck with shave creams for the added protection. I do enjoy my shave brush (thank you McNutt) and the only good cream I have for the brush is Taylor's Rose with which I get a good lather on my face. I have been using Nancy Boy ...

My motivation was primarily the ridiculous rise in the cost of razor cartridges but I was also looking for something different than the can of goop. I went through a typical progression of commercial razors over many years: Gillette Good News (ghastly), Shick Slim Twin (my favorite disposable), Schi...

Welcome Thanks

Thank you all for the welcome. Ichabod has it right. What I save on blades I will probably spend on creams, soaps, and maybe brushes.

A DE Newcomer’s Tale with Thanks

I would like to thank all SMF forum contributors for making my DE razor transition fun and mostly painless. With razor cartridges passing two bucks per cartridge, I finally got fed up contributing to Gillette profits and tried an electric razor in June 2004 for almost two years after which I went on...
