First OneBlade Core shave:

Today was my initiation day with the OneBlade Core razor. The blade I used was the same Feather blade I used with the two Valet AutoStrop razors so this would be the fifth shave with the same blade. That is well within my expectations and experience using those blades in other razors. The final resu...

Re: Horse Hair vs. Boar Hair

They are different. I can't say I prefer one over the other; it's more in the nature of peach or strawberry ice cream?

In praise of Zamac

Zamac gets a really rough deal, one that is certainly not deserved based on reality. Gillette started using Zamac for razor heads about the time of the Korean War. Quite a few of those Zamac razors are still around, still being used and still looking good. Those razors have lasted over a half centur...

Re: OneBlade Core

When I receive my new razor I will post the results of my shaves. Vince, are you able to share an opinion of your OneBlade Core results yet? For some reason the OneBlade Core I ordered is taking forever to get here but the last couple days I have been using one of my Valet AutoStrops with the same ...

Re: Single edge razors

Yesterday and today I used one of my Valet Autostrops with a Feather blade. The shave was pretty ho-hum, not much to report. Did a two pass with touch up and as expected the end product was PDG. Here is the one I used today. http://www.fototime.com/FD26CB1CE28DF4D/medium800.jpg When I first found it...

My rule has always been "Don't count the shaves. If it pulls, drags or hurts, change blades."

Re: Got a new brush

Fellas, let me tell you about a boar brush I recently purchased. Italian Barber sells some boar brushes under their Razorock brand. My research tells me these are made by Zenith in Italy. I bought the 506UK model which is 26 X 64 and has a beautiful olivewood handle for $19.99. After owning several...

Murray, I am like you I prefer a mild razor and a sharp blade. I get my smoothest closest shaves with my 34c and a Feather blade. Re: Single edge razors

There should be several GEM format razors introduced between now and Christmas. But there are also quite a few AC format single edge razors that folk appear to like; I have had experience with the RazoRock Hawk, the Colonial General and the Ikon El Jefe.

Re: Suggest a good solid quality DE razor

Nice lineup of classic Gillettes, for sure. Did you make the rack? No. It's a cheap wood test tube rack that I spray painted white. I love test tube racks for razors. They are inexpensive, designed to hold things without scratching and available in just about any configuration or material imaginabl...

Start from the left and work to the right. The first six should meet your current desires. The next six will come later.

My 12 & 8 are in the weekend rotation and so each get used about once a month. The 2 & 4 are in my weekday rotation and so get used about twice a month.

Very nice! It's obvious that you have a passion for finding and resurrecting these handsome old-timers. There are five left to resurrect but I am amazed by how nice these old brushes have been. Only one has been a shedder, the nylons have been pretty much like modern synthetics and with many of the...
