Re: Noxzema - it's been too long, my friend

I used it as an aftershave balm for, oh, twenty or thirty years during the middle period of my life. My skin never looked better.

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

Squire, it speaks well of a fisherman who gives the fish a sporting chance. Now me, on the other hand, in my fishing days, I used fat juicy nightcrawlers. The guys gave me a hard time about it, but I didn't care. On a good evening I could reel in the fish so fast that my supply of worms was quickly ...

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

Gordon - I'm sure it was you who posted that a certain patch under the jawline resisted shaving no matter what you did. But the issue must not have been very important since my mentioning it doesn't ring a bell. In that case, and given your long experience as a DE shaver, I doubt that you'd do any b...

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

Pete, Well my Gillette #58 is over half a century old and has yet to get 'long in the tooth' ( chuckle ). I dipped out of this game at the Mach III stage and have not the slightest inclination to get back into it. Regards, Gordon Gordon - Allow me to give you a new reason to try the FlexBall Fusion...

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

I like the looks of that silver handle. I decided against the powered version because I have a new (albeit small) scar on my face following surgery, and I'm extra careful when shaving over it.

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

I picked up the unpowered version this morning at Walmart, which in my area tends to get new consumer products before other stores. The cost was $9.97 and included one ProGlide cartridge and a full-size can of shaving gel. I would have preferred a second cartridge instead of the gel, but I didn't ha...

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

Today is D-Day, gentlemen. The day that will revolutonize shaving. The Fusion ProGlide with FlexBall Technology will be on the shelves. This video illustrates the importance of Gillette's newest invention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsIMz0krxdA I checked two local stores this morning - CVS and W...

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

Can't wait to get my hands on this. I've owned every generation of the Gillette cartridge razor since it was introduced more than 40 years ago and have found each to be an improvement on its predecessor. Go Gillette!

Re: Urban Beardsman

Murray's right: it's all about trimming, shaping, and tending whatever facial hair a man wishes to display. I have a mustache only, which nevertheless requires some attention each day so that it doesn't become unruly. I very much eschew the scruffy look and admire a gent like Ben Bernanke who sports...

Re: Best English creams/soaps for sensitive skin?

Gordon, if I do order the Grapefruit, it will be a tube. The OP calls the scent "glorious," suggesting to me that it's pronounced if not overwhelming. I've often been put off by Taylor's overdone fragrances in their creams. With citrus, I prefer something along the lines of Trumper's Limes.

Re: Best English creams/soaps for sensitive skin?

We've seen a lot of skin sensitivity cases here in the forum, but I can't remember one that was solved so easily. Just add more water? Now that's a trick worth remembering. Hope it's real and that it continues to work for you. I'm inspired now to order the Grapefruit cream for the first time. Mr. Ta...

Re: Best English creams/soaps for sensitive skin?

I've always been impressed with the soothing skincare properties of Trumper's Violet cream. This might surprise some because of the rich scent and coloration of the product, yet it must be those distinctive ingredients that my skin finds so beneficial. That said, I can get along with any shave prep ...

Re: Trumpers creams

I'll second Matt's remarks with respect to Trumper's Violet cream. I have a recent pot and I can't get enough of it. Best shaves ever, with excellent skincare qualities and a scent that can't be beat. Yes, I've heard about the reformulation years ago that supposedly ruined the fragrance, but I wasn'...

Gary - yes, the Balsamo was the soft soap, identical in every way except for the scent. I much preferred it to the "almond" fragrance of the standard soft soap.

Re: MORE news from Valobra.

My experience with the discontinued Valobra Balsamo shaving soap gives me hope that this Fougere rendition won't have an underlying clay note. There is no such taint in the Balsamo, which I reviewed in the following post (sorry, I haven't figured out how to embed a link): http://forum.shavemyface.co...

Irisch Moos and Musgo Real balms are aftershave staples for me. They meet your stated criteria in every way. Of the two, Irisch Moos has the more assertive scent, which is spicy and brisk but not long-lasting or oppressive. Highly recommended.

My first Italian was an apparition who has become legendary in my personal private history.. . It was in the summer of 1965, on my first trip to Rome, when a beautiful woman on the street noticed me looking at her. She said, in English, "ten thousand lire," an amount that seemed staggering...
