Re: Bath Soap Slivers

I also run the soap down to a thin sliver and then “weld” it onto the next puck, assuming it’s something similar. I have been using the Martin de Candre bath soaps for a few years now and the weld seems to work ok. I have noticed that once I get down to about 10% of a bar the performance drops off n...

Re: Royal Yacht

Indeed. Badgers are the only dead animals allowed in a barber shop these days. Pretty soon only synthetic ones.

Re: Royal Yacht

That’s an excellent video. Thanks for posting. It seems as if the safety issues would make that establishment uninsurable these days. Open gas flames to heat curling tongs, powered belts right next to customer’s hair and the employee wearing a tie, heaven knows what toxic chemicals were in those aft...

That lather inside the brush is also where the heat is stored. The warm lather can be very nice on a winter morning.

Re: 2019-100yrs since my family started the business

Excellent news! Any chance the handles will be stamped in lampblack? Doesn’t make any difference to performance but it was the hallmark of a “real” Simpson IMO.

Re: Large Simpson PJ - very old and rare

Interesting points made here. I’ve seen dozens of ivory-scaled razors sold on shaving forums and the ivory has never been discussed other as an aside in the Description. In view of the issues with ivory, I have withdrawn the brush.

Re: Large SImposon PJ - very old and rare

There’s no doubt that this is pre-ban. I agree though this sale is CONUS only. I’ve never hesitated to use this brush even though I have only done so maybe 30 times. The most notable difference from resin is the weight. This is quite a heavy brush.

Large Simpson PJ - very old and rare - WITHDRAWN

Large Simpson PJ design in a white bone handle. The images speak for themselves. This is a rare brush – I’ve only seen 2 or 3. This one is marked Bullocks (with a u) Wilshire. There is a hairline down one side – typical of this type of handle. I have owned and used the brush occasionally for many ye...

Re: I want to know what's the different of IPL and Laser!

Lasers seem to be the answer to everything with hair! I get ads for laser hair GROWTH and for hair REMOVAL - I suppose that's good if you change your mind! It probably depends on the laser wavelength and whether is stimulates the follicles to amp up production or destroys them. Generally lasers are ...

Re: Bad news - suddenly a shedder

If the options are throwing it away or keeping going, I’d give it at least a dozen more shaves to shape up. If it’s still shedding badly maybe it’s done for. Actually among this crowd, it’s a significant achievement to actually wear a brush out! Congratulations are in order.

About evenly split soap and creams. Both have their merits. I don’t like sticks much, I probably don’t know how to use them properly but they always seem to make an awful mess.

Re: AOS Rose Absolute shaving cream

This is exactly what I have been doing for a while now - AOS or Xpec unscented and add a decent quality EO. I’ve made rose, sandalwood, neroli and geranium this way. I tend overload the EO a bit and make the scent good and strong. I’ve never noticed any significant drop in performance of the creams ...

Alcohol is less likely to damage plating than is water. Soft lint-free cloth and iso propanol is fine.

Re: Semogue Caravela Mistura in Taj Resin

I’ve been using the ash handle version of this brush for several days now. Very impressive performance, it seems as if this really does capture the best features of badger and boar without any of the downsides of either one. Not inexpensive but still good value IMO.

I ended up buying one of the mixed knot brushes from Semogue - I'd still like a caravela sometime but at least have now tried this "50/50" knot and like it.

Looking for a Semogue caravela brush.

Title says it - I would like to buy one of the LE Semogue owner’s club caravela brushes. It’s a mixed bristle brush. A similar knot brush is available new but I’d prefer to try the original if anyone has one they’d be willing to sell.
Thanks.

Re: Vintage Wilkinson 'Light Brigade' DE Razor Blades

Great blades John, at least 20 shaves without pulling. I only wish that the offer of the 9 x 12 print of the Battle of Waterloo print was still valid. I imagine that those went years ago! If only Wilkinson had been in business at the time of the Battle of Hastings history might be very different.

Re: Penhalgon may be discontinuing English Fern & Douro

For all practical purposes they have already discontinued HB- the current version is a weak rendition of the vintage juice IMO. They are going for high volume items.
