Re: Vintage Simpson 12 Pure Badger - Horn handle

Very nice! Interesting that it says “London make”. I’ve not seen that version of the sticker before.

I guess that your BST post says it all! Based on my one spray, Ther are definitely better Creeds to be had IMO.

Re: Vintage Hammam - first impression

Is it a full glass stopper or does it have a plastic covering on the stopper part that goes into the neck of the bottle? I have a bottle of the single warrant juice and that has a plastic covering on the stopper so there is no glass to glass contact. If it has the plastic part then try wearing a pai...

Re: Creed Royal Oud

I’ll be interested to hear your impression John. I tried a spray of it when I was wandering through a local Nieman Marcus. Quite pleasant and with obvious Creed notes. I know nothing about the “oud” part but guess that it might be synthetic since real oud is in short supply and each batch is typical...

Re: Why sandalwood?

Sandalwood as a scent is one of my favourites but unfortunately I’ve had to recently stop wearing it because, for no apparent reason, I’ve started getting very painful headaches. I sold the bottle in the end, it was from Trumper’s. It’s not the first time I’ve had it either - I seem to recall havin...

Re: "That Lather"

About a year ago I picked up a bowl of Morny Chaminade soap on ebay. It turned out that not only was the bowl in excellent condition but so is the soap. I haven't been able to find out much about this soap. The scent is listed on Basenotes as being for women. It's quite old school - lavender with so...

Re: Cannibidiol CBD - what's up with this stuff?

It seems ironic that one of the listed ailments is "joint pain". It seem guaranteed to work for that. The big question in my mind if I bought some what would be the purity and consistency. Since it is presumably not regulated as a pharma product by the FDA then the purity and potency and a...

Re: For Marmite lovers only

Very good on hot buttered toast IMO. It's worth checking out the "XO" version as well. This is like the old stuff - thick and strongly flavored. The price premium is not a bog deal unless you use it every day. A jar lasts me for ages.

Re: Spam?

It is basically a form of sausage and who doesn't like sausages? It has something of a cult status in Japan. I remember seeing one bagel place where a spam bagel cost more that a smoked salmon version and spam sushi and burgers toppings are widely offered. I used to like spam fritters (fried (prefer...

Either of these is the old stuff. Amazingly someone was selling a bunch on ebay for about $30/bottle a couple of years ago.

Re: "That Lather"

Interesting thread. It’s perhaps a bit ironic that Salter is leading the charge here. If I remember correctly the old Salters (Before the tapered jar shape) was while a decent latherer, rather synthetic with sodium laurel sulfate listed as an ingredient. Certainly no tallow.

Re: Rescuing my GFT Eucris

Yes the Eucris soap was an expensive mistake. I like the scent but the shave quality was very inferior. I passed it on for peanuts to make room for the good stuff. I have added a few drops of Eucris edt to AOS unscented cream and got very good results - my standard sandalwood and rose cream comprise...

Re: "That Lather"

I used Czech and Speake #88 soap today and was reminded that it is still a tallow based soap (according to the posted ingredients list). It also does produce “that lather” nice creamy dense bubbles. It smells pretty good too! Maybe time to order a refill just in case.

Re: "That Lather"

I have wondered if the big players dropped tallow out of fear of product liability now that “mad cow” disease is a constant background story. Even the suggestion that someone had a problem e.g. a frivolous law suit, could more or less destroy a brand overnight. Better to sell mediocre glycerine soap...

Re: XPEC Shaving Cream

I bought this but accidentally ordered the scented by mistake. It is quite good - reminds me of the older version of Hammam Bouquet which along with Blenheim are the only two Pens scents that don’t give me a headache. As far as the lather is concerned it is excellent and easy to generate. Overall a ...

Convert the cassettes to mp3 and put them on your phone the use a 1/8 jack to cassette adapter to play though the car audio. The space freed up by not needing a dozen or so cassettes will easily be enough for another camera lens and some shaving gear.

Re: Why sandalwood?

Side note: sandalwood smells rather like testosterone which may be significant. And vanillin smells rather like one’s mama’s —well, anyone’s mama’s, really — nourishing breast. Smutty piece of work, nature. One track mind. So a bisexual or a transgender person would do well with a sandalwood-vanill...

Re: Why sandalwood?

A good sandalwood is a great scent IMO. The classic Mysore is a lovely dry creamy scent, I have oil, chips and a bracelet all bought from Ensar Oud. I also bought a sampler of vintage oils from him. Quite remarkable differences, some are sharp and lemony, others bitter and camphorous. If they were n...
