Maybe the better course of action in the event of an unexpected loss of all or most of the shaving gear stored on premises would be a spirited and motivated international internet shopping adventure, which would probably be a very pleasant experience, within a specified budget, of course!

Six month status report. Positive results!

I've been shaving with a straight razor now for about 6 months or more, going through the ups and downs of learning something new, studying and practicing in pursuit of getting the best shave possible, and today seems to have been one of those mile-post days, when I can rub my beard almost 8 hours p...

Re: Beard Direction

I find that familiarity with beard growth direction leads to improved technique similar to learning to play an instrument. Any thoughts? In my quest to improve my straight razor shaving results, I carefully drew the map, then formulated a plan. Instead of starting out with the sideburn area ...

Safe Deposit Box for Shaving Stash?

It occurred to me last week that I probably should store my extra shaving stuff, beyond about a year's supply of what I currently use and rotate through, in my safe deposit box at the bank. That way I won't stand a risk of losing it, in any one of a number of hypothetically possible ways. Right now,...

Screw 'em. I will use a damn electric before I would bow down and buy one of those multi bladed thingies. I do have, safely stashed away, an old original Trac II and a few blades (OK, twin blade cartridges, there, I said it) and, I still have my $30 baseline model Norelco, badly in need of another ...

Want to Trade: GreenPond Sandalwood Shaving Cream **Traded*

I have enough for myself now, and still have an extra tub, new and in the box. Made in England by DR Harris for GreenPond. I'd like to trade it for an unused tub of TOBS Rose, or DR Harris Marlborough. Please send a PM if you are interested. Thanks.**Traded**

Gordon, that's it. Just needed one of anything at a time, never thought of needing more than that, and everybody was content with the way it was! I think if I "enjoyed" shaving once in a while, I would probably just have paid not much attention, and went on about my business. I recall many...

Good discussion, and good points raised. My inspiration comes from the past times when all anybody ever had (not Gordon, but the rest of us  ) was one of everything, and I never had a brush. When we ran out of blades or foam, we went to the drug store or grocery store on the corner and bought a...

Re: Acquisition vs zen

So to say there's not something even better is never going to be the same answer for everyone. But surely after trying a large variety of products and techniques, you naturally have it down to 'what works' for you? At that point it's about the individual's appetite for experimentation in the pursui...

I may have missed someone else's helpful post, but I'd recommend that you try a Kent BK4 which is an outstanding all-occasion silvertip badger brush, plus an Omega boar brush, maybe a 49 or a 31064. For soaps, I'd suggest Tabac and Cella or P160 firm. For creams, I'd suggest La Toya, T&H, and Fr...

That was it, just gently sawing back and forth very carefully on the end of my course Norton stone until the frown is gone and the blade sits perfectly horizontal on a flat surface with no high or low spots showing. I tape all my blades when honing. Then establish a new bevel on the courser stone, i...
