Re: Am I the only one who missed the Gillette "Heritage" DE Razor?

I've always been interested about that Muehle/EJ Jagger head so the Gillette one I'd like maybe get too, but if they are only were sold on Amazon, not really. I'd much prefer buy from a shaving company. I've seen them on eBay, and I wouldn't be surprised if some regular online vendor had some for s...

Re: electric shaver

I've had good results with moderately priced Norelcos, except when I tried to groom the hairline on the back of my neck. That area would get very irritated. I use one a lot less often than a double edge or injector razor, though. I think Norelco still has a 45-day trial period, so you can return it ...

Am I the only one who missed the Gillette "Heritage" DE Razor?

https://sharpologist.com/gillette-heritage-double-edge-razor/ It was only sold on Amazon, aimed at the 2019 holiday season, featured a handle that looked like one from a 1930 NEW model, and a head apparently from Muhle. Limited edition, still available, for about $35. I already potentially have some...

Murray, sorry I didn't know more about Muslims and badgers. :)

Of course, in Wisconsin, Badgers are a protected species. :D

Re: Do I need a boar brush?

This leads me to a more serious thought: are muslims and jews allowed to use boar brushes? Or perhaps only forbidden to eat them - which would appear sensible. After reading up on this a bit, apparently it's all right to use a boar brush if you're Jewish, though I would expect some orthodox opinion...

How good were the last American-made Schick injector blades?

My understanding is that the current Chinese-made Schick injector blades are generally better than their predecessors made in Germany. But I don't know how the American-made predecessors to the German blades compare. Someone on eBay is selling a large quantity, and I'm wondering if they're worth get...

Re: new mergress

I'm still very fond of one-piece models like the early Gillette Rocket. I just thought of something that might not be possible - a one-piece slant razor. That would eliminate the need for finessing the blade alignment and wondering which alignment was correct. There's probably a reason there isn't a...

Re: Gillette Heated Razor

I'm pretty sure it's just heating the face, and then cutting the hair with a 5-blade cartridge. I'm not interested in it as a product to buy, but I am a little interested in how Gillette deals with creating appeal for their products that have unexpired patents, when the best stuff has been around fo...

Gillette Heated Razor

Not too long ago, GIllette came up with another new thing to provide novelty beyond putting more blades in their cartridges: https://gillette.com/en-us/products/gillette-labs/heated-razor-by-gillette It's a $200 heated razor, apparently released some time last year, judging from the timing of member...

Re: Do I need a boar brush?

All this talk of boar brushes is whetting my appetite for a few slices of Jamon Iberico. \:D/ \:D/ Now I see why: https://www.foodandwine.com/meat-poultry/jamon-iberico-info Apparently the "fish on Friday" rule was expanded to include animals that are closely bonded with the water, so all...

Re: Screw bottom of a DE razor

Sam, it looks like a TTO razor to me, and my guess is that something internal failed. Those Chinese razors are generally not nearly as durable as, say, an old Super Speed. I once got a Chinese TTO at a dollar store, probably a Weishi. It shaved fine, but the head bent in when I accidentally pressed ...

Re: Do I need a boar brush?

And according to the catholic church puffins are fish, as are beavers and capybara - at least for purposes of being eaten on a Friday. I'd rather eat fish than any of those three, and I'm not a catholic! "Capybara" sounds like a title, as in "The Archbishop of Canterbury met last nig...

Re: Do I need a boar brush?

According to Leviticus, Chapter 11: "And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them... "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he [is] unclean to you. "Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not tou...

Re: Wiped shave soap and shave stick, please help.

"Whipped" also seems to me to be the most likely word.

As for using a shave stick, I rub the stick on my face and then use a brush to make the lather on my skin. I can't think of a simpler method. If the stick is wrapped in foil, unwrap an inch or so at the top.

Gary, I was going to guess Gilbert & Sullivan, but that doesn't quite fit. Were you smoking opium with Coleridge again? :)

[Meant as a compliment, but oddball, like your verse.]

After reading about it, I'm tempted to get the $30 version - not stainless, of course. Maybe it will get discounted soon as part of the Italian Barber weekly moving sales.

What about width? I'm used to the standard injector razor, and wonder for myself if the greater width might make it harder to maneuver.

I'm inclined first just to try a bunch of different Schick injectors, using the Proline blades
