Re: iceland breeze

Hey, Pete, the "hint of menthol" stifled my interest, but Master products in general have fascinated me for some time. I see Atlanta Barber Supply, Appleton Barber Supply, and Williamsport Barber Supply all carry a selection of Master products, as well as other "old time" barber ...

Re: THE TOTALLY SUPER-BEST INCREDIBLY FANTASTIC AFTER-SHAVE

Lucido Skin Conditioner the best of its kind. Lucido, I think, came up earlier in this thread as being a real winner. Someday I may get a chance to try it- but I am very fussy about this product category and came to Clinique after trying a dozen or so alternatives. Incidentally, welcome to SMF, Jer...

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

Porter, it has been interesting to watch (pardon the poor pun) the evolution of your thought/decision-making process re: the Apple Watch. my guess is, if and when you do decide to purchase one, you will definitely be the person who can extract from it every benefit and wrinkle it has to offer. that'...

Re: THE TOTALLY SUPER-BEST INCREDIBLY FANTASTIC AFTER-SHAVE

Pete, Clinique recently revamped/renamed/repackaged their men's line. The Soother is the same as the old Healer (dopey, I know). I've tried it and can confirm it's pretty much identical in terms of performance and efficacy (but can't swear the formula wasn't tweaked in some minor way that didn't dem...

Re: Anyone have recommendations for shaving towels?

Gary, I tried some microfiber towels and hated my choice....no absorbency...at least compared to the old-time
herringbone design (the ones with the single green or blue stripe).

Those lint free types are also cheap---VERY cheap!

Re: Anyone have recommendations for shaving towels?

Late to the party, as usual!! You can find a variety of choices by checking out some of the on-line wholesale barber supply sites. Try Williamsport Supply, Appleton Supply, and Atlanta Barber Supply are just a few places to find barber towels, as well as a lot of other shaving and grooming lines lik...

Re: Joke of the Day

Two middle-aged ladies were weekending at an old-style Catskills Resort. Their conversation turned to the food being served. "Oh my, Gertrude," exclaimed Milly, "ain't the food here simply awful?" "Yes," Milly replied, "and there's so little of it, too!" That'...

Re: Flooding the market with new products

Have tried a few soaps from artisans with mixed results- some ok, some really nice, at least one dud- all judged by lather quality (and quantity). Fragrance is almost always a secondary consideration for me as my shave takes place before my shower. Those motivated by fragrance considerations, howeve...

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

Porter,

not even in my dreams!! I can see the attractions you mentioned...but it seems like a cost-benefit situation that for
me comes down to the cost far outweighs the benefit(s).

let us know when you pull the trigger!

Re: Alum Blocks?

Mike, I was skeptical about alum blocks for the longest while, but once I tried it as a post shave, I was a convert. No irritation, nice astringent feeling... just what I wanted. I still finish with a post shave soother,and/or an alcohol-based scented after-shave Then, I got fancy and tried using it...

Re: Complexity of a simple, easy Task

Hello, Jack, and welcome to our congenial group. From someone who's been at it for nearly 60 years, many things have gotten better over time (my tallow shave soap is FAR better than the Rise shave foam I started on) despite the apparent over complicated nuances. One reason Shave My Face appeals so m...

Re: FDA to crack down on home based soap makers

I am particularly incensed that a Senator from a party professing to concern itself about encouraging small business investment would co-sponsor legislation which would lead to this bogus witch hunt. Partisan politics aside (sorry), when will common sense ever prevail in our government? Anyone know ...

Re: DEEP SKIN CLEANSING MASKS

Updating this a bit, I can now report I use the QED clay from time to time and really like the overall results.
Still struggling with the right water/clay ratio, but generally can recommend it for those with oily, occasionally
"troubled" skin.
DON'T use it on freshly-shaved skin!

Pete, hospitalized four times during the last 6 months of 2014, for close to a month in total. First thing I did was toss that useless toiletries kit they hand out and had my wife bring me virtually everything I use at home, including my Sonicare electric toothbrush. Sorry to hear you had a reaction...

Re: Current hair care regimen and products

I have so little hair on top, it's laughable to spend any time and effort on it. Yet vanity demands I do. Nonetheless, on suggestion of dermatologist, refrain from daily shampoo. Currently using a Mystic Waters shampoo bar, every other day at most, followed by a mild vinegar rinse. Repeating what I'...

Re: Stirling Barbershop shaving soap review

Glad you enjoyed this version, notable for its lack of menthol. Generally, I've stayed away from those "artisan" shave soap makers who seem to be in a foot-race to see who can manage to throw in ever more menthol, or whatever, to achieve that super-cooling effect. A big turn-off for me. Fi...

I didn't have a real hobby or something to grasp my attention....you seem to enjoy that advantage. Congrats and b...
