Re: Who still has their very first razor?

I only just began DE shaving about a year and a half ago, but the first razor I got back then, the EJ DE89 Barley Chrome, is still in my stable. I don't use it all that much, but I don't want to sell it. First of all it has a few dents that don't effect function, but greatly effect resale value and ...

Re: Gillette Being Pressured By DE Sales

It's been a while since I tried canned goo as I have been using electric prior to switching to DE and before then I used brushless cremes like KMF and Trader Joe's brand (both fine products, BTW). I remember switching from the cans because I was pretty disgusted by the ingredients (yes, I am one of ...

Re: Gillette Being Pressured By DE Sales

Harper, what you say makes sense, of course. But I always think of small movements like our wet/DE/non-cart shaving as possibly creating a "rudder effect". Relatively small rudder on a large ship determines its course. Not instantaneously, but it does. Small population of shavers can chang...

Re: Gillette Being Pressured By DE Sales

Interestingly enough, Gillette still makes some of the best DE blades out there and owns other brands like Astra (others?). So clearly they are not totally out of DE market. It's just that the profit must be much better selling tons of unnecessary plastic around a blade (or six), so they are trying ...

Re: HMMM? some interesting results when I changed things up.

I see this thread was started in 2008, so I am a little late :), but it is my experience that Super Speeds are not meant to be used with loosened doors. They are too mild for me, but in my beginner time I loved Super Speeds and had a small collection of them. I found they respond very well to shimmi...

Re: Hallmark open comb DE razor - anyone know it?

Yes, the blade width is covered mostly, which is a nice touch. Very interesting machine and I only saw pictures of one other, which had a white handle and was in terrible condition plating-wise. Mine is literally unused, which is great. My love of OC razors is furthered by this one. I wish I could f...

Re: Collectors Corner (no chatter please)

I recently found this in the wild at an antique store. I have never seen this before or heard about it anywhere. Research has turned up next to nothing. If anyone knows anything about this razor post in my thread here: http://forum.shavemyface.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=52115. http://i.imgur.com/Tn...

Hallmark open comb DE razor - anyone know it?

I found this the other day in the wild and bought it as NOS. It came in the bottom half of its cardboard box. It does look unused. I gave it a wash and tried it. It shaves very well! a bit more aggressive than Gillette New long comb. Not a super-aggressive, but very smooth and handles beautifully. T...

Re: iKon Stainless Steel Slant

This is very cool. I must say though, in my experience with a modern day Merkur 37C and a vintage Merkur slant, those particular razors did not provide a better shave than a moderately aggressive OC or even a Merkur Progress set to 4. They are way cool and handle smoothly, though. This one looks ver...

Re: Wee Scot - what an understatement

Ah! the Wee Scot thread. I love this brush. It was my very first Simpson. Right now my only two factory-made badgers are Wee Scot and Case, both excellent badger brushes. I have to admit that when I travel I take the Case or one of my own creations. I have created at least two brushes inspired by th...

Re: NEW WETSHAVERS...ARE WE MISSING THEM

Hello, everyone. This is my very first post on SMF. I tried to sign up a year and a half ago when I first discovered shaving forums and wet shaving. I had the captcha problem not let me sign up. I sent emails to admins, etc. to no avail. So, I honestly decided that the sign up process was a very sma...
