Gents, A quick warning. I ordered from that site once as well and had good luck, but members from another board, which will go unmentioned, have reported difficulties. The word is that if they screw up your order, it is next to impossible to get any satisfaction from them, as they do not respond to ...

British brick and mortar stores carrying Erasmic?

Gents, particularly our British brethren in London or Manchester, My cousins attend school in the cities listed above, and will be coming "State side", as they say, in a couple of weeks. They have offered to pick up some Erasmic shave cream and sticks for me (and maybe some Ingrams), and t...

Gordon,

Doubly strange that the Brit scents weren't on Basenotes considering that the founder, Grant Osborne, is an Englishman.

Gordon, You are absolutely correct regarding the general lack of knowledge about the high end British scents. Coming from a family where all of us (my parents as well as my four siblings) wouldn't leave the house unscented, I'm always a little surprised that people become curious about fragrance as ...

Andrew, Well, if you wanted to stay away from designer scents, you should have mentioned that to Cathy, as all the samples she gave you, save the Castle Forbes, are designer. And as an aside, there really isn't a Bandit Pour Homme. It may now be marketed as such, but when Bandit was created by famou...

Andrew, Re Jacomo: you hit it on the head about the 80's night club scene. Perhaps that is why I like it so much! It is a bit of a smokey, patchouli and spice bomb, perhaps not as gentlemanly as is preferred in these parts. It is one, though, that I would NEVER wear in anything but cool/cold weather...

Rhett,

They are actually quite similar, so much so that if you own one, there is no point in owning the other. As an aside, while they are both excellent, neither matches the standard set by Crown Perfumery's Fougere, which is sadly no longer available.

I am of Greek descent and the user name means "gentleman" in my parents' native tongue, which I try to be when I post on sites.

Michael, Great list of vetivers. One small note: in the US, the 1948 Creed Vetiver can be purchased in 2.5 oz bottles at Neiman Marcus. I have the new Carven Vetiver, and while I can't tell you if it is back to the original formulation, it is much better than it's previous incarnation, and is very g...

Now, if we could only get some of our favorite retailers like Jim or Robert to carry the 500 ml size.

Where are these blades made? The BIC blades sold under the Astor name that are made in Greece (as are BIC Metals) are a fine product, not as good as Swedish Gillettes, but better than the Israeli blades.

PHS1, Whether triple-milled soaps are superior to glycerine soaps is a matter of debate. The shaving properties are quite clearly different in that triple-milled soaps tend to provide more cushion, especially, at least for me, the tallow based ones (e.g., DR Harris, Tabac). Triple-milled are much mo...

Gordon,

I think I recall that Erasmic shave cream contains lanolin. Is this correct? If so, have you had any sensitivity to lanolin before? I was just wondering if this is a product with lanolin that may work for those who have had previous problems with it.

If I'm not mistaken, the Coral Skin Food has menthol crystals, which may be causing your reaction.

I'll chime in and say that the Harris soaps (at least the lavender and almond) are on par with the best I have used. Certainly no others I've tried are better.

Tony, Lots of good suggestions for colognes, as well as the reasons for choosing. One scent that came to mind that might well suit you is Hermes Equipage, a very refined, mature floral (mainly carnation) that is quite elegant, and works well year round. You can probably find it to sample in your cit...

This is indeed a sad state of affairs. After many moons of using TOBS creams, I received one of those highly whipped Lemon & Lime tubs and decided it was time to look elsewhere. Well, that elsewhere was Trumpers. I've never tried the Harris creams, but it seems that the options are getting thin....

Scott, The top bottle that you purchased is an EDT, and should have decent longevity. The huge (25.5 oz) plastic splash bottle is an EDC, a great bargain frequently found for under $10, but it is quite light. The EDT can be purchased in either spray or splash, and the container is glass. Regards, Ba...

This is why, honestly, I thought the SMF III brush looked absurd. Some people really like it, though. -Dan Yes, well, the SMF III brush IS a bit of a bloomer, but it is surprisingly effective with soaps, as well as being excellent with creams, so for those of us who don't have a king's ransom inves...
