Hi Dustin - I'm hearing two different issues there: 1. The ability to cut through a coarse beard, and 2. Closeness of the shave. I agree that a little added heft might make mowing down a coarse beard a little easier, especially if you are using a travel razor now. If you like the Merkur, you could t...

Yes, my understanding is that Derby blades are a Turkish product.

It is not unusual to use English names for marketing even in countries of other languages.

Hi Dustin - Welcome to SMF! My vote is for the Fatboy or of Gillette Adjustable. These are razors that you can learn on with a gentler setting. If you have sensitive skin, you may never require a higher/closer/more aggressive setting. Otherwise, you may, or may not, eventually want a different setti...

Hi Exido -

A lot of them have platinum (no doubt a very thin coating of this precious metal) and PFTE (teflon).

Hi Exido - Modern DE blades have coatings on the blade edge, and they recommend against rubbing it, for drying or otherwise. These coatings make possible the smooth-shaving characteristics of modern blades. The DE blades that would be "stroppable" would be the old-style carbon steel blades...

Like Gordon, I don't drink, and like Gordon and Sam, I do fancy good tea. Nevertheless, I have enough going on with a shave that taking something to drink into the bathroom would just be an unwanted distraction. I find the shaving experience satisfying and complete without it. Of course, YMMV, expec...

I used to wear aftershave and cologne occasionally when I was a young man. I lived on a shoestring during my young adult years, between the US, Brazil, and Portugal, so I didn't have the money for fine colognes. In more recent years, like Wendell, I have become very sensitive to most fragrances. Mos...

Andrew, I'm a little unclear as to why, if you are enjoying the Sienna ( which is more intensely scented then many ), you would be seeking out an unscented cream? My guess is that either A) because he wants one, or B) because he can't find NOS Yardley. Doug    - Murray

I agree with Michael and AJ: There is no arguing with what works! As AJ pointed out, there are a number of forum members who prefer a boar brush, or who at least keep one in their brush rotation. I'm one of the latter. Though I have 4 badger brushes, I still use a Proraso/Omega boar brush on occasio...

You'll find that gents on the forum gravitate either to vintage (most often post WW II) Gillettes on one side, or to Merkurs on the other. Like Gordon, I'm firmly in the Gillette camp, and I feel that the razor you have is among the best. The Merkur Classic was too aggressive for me, and what I've r...

Hi Ren - great idea for a thread! I lived on the upper Amazon River for a couple of years. My home base was in a little hut on stilts, 2000 miles up the river, at the border between Brazil, Columbia and Peru. I probably traveled over 8000 miles on the river itself, and I flew over parts of it, too. ...
