You'll get lots of different opinions on this, Al. So many, in fact, that they may not mean much. For the record, though, my favorite is Taylor's. I've compared it to my wife's roses, and the scent is pretty true. Granted, her rose bushes are not wild, but they are from old stock and have a delightf...

Pine and a little citrus? Sounds like you're describing Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet. Highly recommended.

Welcome to SMF, Mike.

I'll be interested in your thoughts on that QED Violetta shave soap, once you've had a chance to try it.

It's amazing that, what started off with some rulebooks for reenacting battles with lead soldiers, became a game empire. The man really did have a major impact on pop culture.

When I use Caswell-Massey's creams brushlessly, I reapply between passes. It's not difficult to do. I can understand why some folks don't bother, though. Brushless creams are usually slicker, and tend to leave a film behind. I think I could definitely get away without reapplying, so long as I was ca...

The crimes that previous owners commit - atrocious. It's unbelievable some of the things that the former owners of our house did. We took down some appalling faux wood paneling, and discovered a pocket doorway. Yay! Then we realized that the pocket door was missing. Boo! Then we found the pocket doo...

Gordon, yes they stock it, but they're not very knowledgeable about it. I walked in there last year to try to pick up some old formula Trumper's violet, figuring that their stock didn't turn over very often (this being Pittsburgh and all). They had coconut, almond, sandalwood and (I think) limes on ...

I recently started shaving with my off hand. I wanted to see if I learned anything new that way. Also, I figure if I ever break my dominant hand, I'll still be able to shave! So far, so good. I've been getting good shaves, and haven't nicked myself yet. It takes longer, and feels awkward, but it's w...

The options aren't great, Sam. The Caswell-Massey store in Fifth Avenue Place closed down a couple of years ago. That was my main source for quality, moderately-priced aftershaves and colognes. Shiller's Cosmetics, on Walnut Street in Shadyside, does carry some good stuff, or did the last time I was...

We bought ours five years ago. I did some research in Consumer Reports, and we decided to get the front-loading Sears Kenmore. I think it's called an H3t or something. I have no complaints. The thing works very well, has not broken down, and uses about a third of the water that a top-loading washer ...

Sam, here's another tip that may be valuable. Tell her to look for the "200 g, 7 oz" printed on the outer box. Another member, in another thread on this, indicated that the old Trumper's boxes had the quantity printed directly beneath the barcode (centered). The new boxes have it printed o...

Wear it very occasionally to please her. Dump some down the toilet regularly, as Scott suggested. Expect to get more bottles of it in the future. Alternatively, dump it all out, rinse out the bottle thoroughly, and fill it with a decent cologne from the same scent family, that you can stand. If ther...

Yes, I used Dial soap for several years. You can do it, but the shave is not as good as it is with a good shave soap. Most bath soaps produce a lather that feels "sticky" when shaving. I'd stick with a soap that is meant for shaving.

If you purchased Murray and Lansman's, it should not be thick. I wonder if you have a defective bottle. It should be as thin as water.
