Re: Semogue 2-Band Finest Badger

Tim, I agree entirely with your assessment. Generally, I’m not a fan of 2-band because of their high density and backbone, but the Semogue seems to have got it right in this regard, at least for me. I’ve tried several shavemac 2-bands, but didn’t like them until I had Bernd make one with a high loft...

Chris, do you use an EDT as you would an aftershave splash?

Re: We Prep Our Beards, So....

As far back as I can remember I’ve soaked my badger and boar brushes. For the last few years I’ve been using a Moss Scuttle: Prior to my pre-shave shower I rinse my brush under hot water, fill both chambers of the scuttle with hot water and immerse the badger/boar bristles in the hot water; due to t...

Re: Manchurian White badger by Elite Razor

This brush looks like one that is worth pursuing. Several years ago I purchased a Rooney Finest 2/1 and it has proven to be a big disappointment: the centre of the knot has hollowed out. This has never happened to any of the 30 other badgers I own. The Rooney still lathers well and feels terrific on...

Re: Getting a Chubby(!)

I’ve tried all 3 sizes of the Simpson Chubby, the M&F equivalent and both sizes of the New Forest Tubby. None has suited me at all due to the density and stiff backbone of the knots. I do, however, own 30 badger, 3 boar and 3 synthetic brushes. I use a different brush every day except for the sy...

Re: Plumbing!

[snip] The plumbing was yanked out—literally yanked, by a physician from Croatia, who said Slavically, "Is troublemaker. Is stuck. Will come though." And so it did, though not before he had lifted me bodily off the bed by the tube. Very nice man. [snip] :-k Didn't that leave a hole in you...

Re: Matching soaps & creams with most effective brush fibers

I only face-lather and I find the Kent BK4 an excellent brush for lathering. As far as I’m concerned, the shavemac 3-band silver tip, Simpson (Colonel) best badger, Muhle silvertip, Semogue 3-band silvertip, VP Leonhardy 3-band silvertip and other similar brushes are excellent for face-lathering. On...

He/she looks very healthy. Nice to have the natural world dropping in…as long as there are no rabies. We see the occasional fox, but it’s mostly coyotes, raccoons and possums in our garden.

Fawlty Towers? Am I getting warm? Honestly, the cartoon resembles a rat more than a handsome young kit, at least to me. A rat #-o hush your mouth [-X Basil Brush is a red fox puppet and the star of the eponymous ‘The Basil Brush Show’, a very popular and long-running children’s show in the UK. Defi...

My son and daughter-in-law have been using a Peloton bike for several years. They absolutely love it and approach it with almost religious zeal. I haven’t used one myself.

While I have a few others, these tend to be my go-to brushes. The 620 replaced my beloved 1305 which had a core knot breakdown and fell apart one day while using it..... took me a couple of years to finally replace it.
Good to see you back Wendell.

Hoppin’ John has become one of our staples: we have it for dinner about once a week. Sometimes we substitute Naan bread for rice and black beans for black eyed peas. Even SWMBO raves about it.

Re: Maybe I'll go to jail

In November I received such a summons along with a confidential on-line questionnaire to complete. At the end of the questionnaire there were several questions regarding my age (over 70) and my health, which were generic. Shortly after submitting the completed questionnaire I received a reply formal...

Chris, that is great news. Having lived through radical surgery, chemo and radiation I really feel for you, but what you’re enduring makes my experience pale in comparison. You are made of stern stuff, physically and mentally; you bring new meaning to a stiff upper lip. Hang in there and damn the to...

Re: Semogue Caravela Mistura in Taj Resin

Gary, there are some badger/boar mixed knots sold loose by APShave and Maggard, but the ratio of hair is different, and I have not enjoyed them at all. Semogue says 50/50 boar/badger on these, and it's good 2-band badger. The AP/Maggard knots are scritchy as all heck and very, very dense, so lather...
