I think there are two basic groups of open-comb razors, and within each group is tremendous variation. 1. The original open-comb razors were of the blade-on-comb variety, in which the blade was laid directly onto the comb, with no gap or space between them. The comb essentially allowed access to th...

1966 Gillette what?

So there I was - happy to have finally joined the Gillette club with my latest eBay take - a 1966 TTO adjustable. My question is - I keep reading all this about Fat Boys and Super Speeds etc... what model is this one? It's not a flare tip, as the opening knob is straight. What else should I look for...

First adjustable razor shave...

So I just got my 1966 Gillette adjustable cleaned up last night and threw in an NOS Super Blue Blade for this morning... and instead of seeking the wise counsel here, I just was too excited to shave with it... and as you can imagine it wasn't very comfortable. I sure got a close shave though... I've...

IMO discussing closed-comb vs open-comb as a shaving question is a mistake. It is mainly a razor-manufacturing question. The quality of your shave is going to be based on geometry: the angle at which the blade is bent inside the razor head, the angle & curve of the upper cap, the length, positi...

Well, I've been fortunate enough to win a couple neat eBay auctions as of late - finally got a Leresche - not in super great shape, but one nonetheless. Also got a pack of NOS Leresche blades for it. Open comb vs. "Standard" DE razor question

Hi all,
I've been wetshaving for a few years but have always had a "Standard" closed-comb razor.
How different is the shave quality with an open-comb razor?
I want to find a French-made DE razor and they all seem to be of the open comb sort.

Thanks for your time,
Scott

This morning was my first shave with Cella - definitely a favorite now!

That lather just wouldn't quit! Even with a middle-of-the-road Altesse brush it just kept on - super thick, great smell, and left my face just as refreshed as can be. Close to BBS - not there yet though.

WTB: Older French-made DE razors

Good day, I'm looking to purchase a French-made DE razor... if you have a spare one (in decent shape) you wouldn't mind parting with, please let me know how much you'd take for it. Leresche, Kirby, Gibbs, French Gillette, let me know. I'm also interested if you have any French-made blades for the sa...

Hi, Yeah, I definitely want to keep my girlfriend happy! :) As you suggested, I used a different after shave this morning - AOS unscented balm.
