Re: Adding a new Razor need advice Muhle R89 or R89 twist

Well, the difference between the R89 and the R89 twist is mainly the fact that the twist is a 2 piece razor. There is no possibility of an easy handle swap with another razor. That said, I own a Mühle R41 twist and it is a favorite of mine. I really think that handle swapping is the only real consid...

Re: Would this be weird

I don't find it in the least weird. I shave when the mood takes me, mostly. Sometimes I'm forced to grab a quick shave when the opportunity presents itself. I shave twice in a day sometimes, again, if the mood takes me. I can shave twice a day if I choose -- my whiskers will grow to a shaveable leng...

D.R. Harris Marlborough soap - got this as a sample and doubt I'll get more.
Their Arlington is a favorite with me.

Re: Alum Blocks?

I started using the alum block just because I read about it and wanted a try. I too have read that the alum block and the styptic pencil are two different compounds but they both seem to work at staunching nicks and weepers for me. I quit using mine after awhile until I read a post somewhere (B&...

Re: The Snows of February 2015

It is strange how nature's cycles keep us guessing. Here in Seattle we had what was referred to as "the blizzard of '97". The whole flippin' city practically shut down. It was just the one big storm -- not the multiple blasts hitting eastern north America now, and probably dumped less than...

Re: One pass shave

I can't remember my last one-pass shave specifically, but I can almost guarantee that it was on some occasion when my alarm failed to go off. I will shave in the shower by feel when really rushed if I've got a multi-blade. I keep a disposable in a drawer near the shower for just such eventualities. ...

Re: BIC 1 Sensitive single blade disposables

Yeah, I agree with Seamaster . It does require a different technique. These potato chip weight razors need just a small amount of pressure to compensate for their lack of tonnage. It's kind of fun to use whilst traveling - sometimes a bit like the bargain rental car you get: nothing you'd ever want ...

BBS Holy Grail achieved ~ at what cost?

For starters I love DE shaving, and I don't at all regret leaving my old Gillette Atra in the rear-view mirror. However, I read a post or two in the cartridge razor section, trying to find what people recommend for TSA compliant razors (damned hard to find BiC METAL disposables anymore) and got inte...

Re: Good lavender scents?

I have to agree, even un-opened it has a unique beauty to it. In an appropriate niche it would look marvelous and you could tell the story.......followed by an invitation to sniff the top.

Still, I doubt that the phrase, "Wanna smell my cork?" will catch on.

Re: Good lavender scents?

Yes indeed, I'm very keen to hear how it smells (now there's a phrase you don't hear everyday) if you decide to open it. Several years ago I remember reading about someone who paid some perfectly enormous sum at auction for a bottle of wine from Napoleon's cellar. It was un-opened. As the proud new ...

Re: Removing glue from double edge razor blades

Gotta say I'm with Squire on this one. I don't even check on my Astra SPs anymore, just put 'em in and shave. I mostly use three piece razors, so every fifth or sixth blade I run both parts of the razor head under scalding water and wipe with a towel ~ a little wax is entirely ignorable to me. It do...

Re: Keeping Cella from going bad

I use several soft soaps (croaps) and Cella is a favorite. If I had to pick one to use from now on, it would be a toss-up between Cella and Proraso red in the tub. Either one is a joy to use, and I am very happy not to have to make that choice. Cella might get the edge because of the tallow it conta...

Re: Pre shave...cleansing face

I got the Michael Ham book on gourmet shaving. He recommends using a glycerin soap as a pre-shave wash and I've been doing that ever since. Any glycerin soap will work, according to him, but he likes Musgo Real lime. I bought the Musgo Real lavender, and I like it very much - not sure that it really...

Re: One of my better ideas

I'm semi retired, and my time is my own, for the most part. I've been a wet shaver all my life, but only in the last few years have I been using a DE. My first razor (around 1971) was the just released Gillette Trac II. From there to Atra, and then on to ST2 disposables. I never made it to triple bl...

Re: DR Harris Sandalwood Shaving Soap

D.R. Harris soaps are some of the best I've ever used. I was very keen to try the new sandalwood since I have a puck of Arlington that has become a favorite. One other thing I like about the DRH soaps is that they're offered in shaving stick form - I love shave sticks, especially shave sticks with t...

Re: Good lavender scents?

I've been intrigued about the Caldy, how do those two compare? Well, I'm a sucker for lavender, and I got hold of some Caldy island - both a/s and EdT. I like them, but not as well as the Agua Lavanda. My wife disliked the Caldy, saying it smelled phony . As I said, I'm a scent floozy and especiall...

Re: Joke of the Day

A fellow is walking down the street when he begins to hear faint piano music. He tries to ascertain where it's coming from and notices a guy sitting on the curb looking dejected. Sitting next to him on the curb on one side is an ornate brass lamp, and on the other a cardboard carton. It is from this...

Re: Stirling Glacial Lavender shaving soap - awesome!

I dig all the Stirling soaps. BONAPARTE or SHARP DRESSED MAN are two of my favorites, but their GLACIAL LAVENDER is menthol heaven. I will confess to using it as the base in a super lather, adding Musgo Real lavender shaving cream to the mix - absolutely fabulous ! I also confess to being unable to ...
