I was thinking along the lines that someone who sends razors off for honing would want one that retains an edge longer; but I see it could be more complicated than that.

OK, which is best; a hard blade that is difficult to hone but holds an edge, or a softer blade that hones/strops easier but loses it faster?

OK, that is a lot of stropping. I do almost that much. The fabric side seems to help a lot.
