I've been at it about 2 years. My worst cut was to the fingers of the off hand when bringing the razor up and the off hand up to streatch at the same time. Most face cuts have been minor. Strange it seems they happen in cycles. Minor cuts a few days in a row then no cuts for weeks then repeat. At th...

If everything is below the surface, and if you can't feel any bumps when lightly test stropping, and if the razor shaves well after stropping; then I guess it's ok. :-k Otherwise it needs work. Another thought (talk is cheap); Is it constructed so you can easily reverse the leather end-to-end? If so...

How about a Spyderco Straight Razor
If the Spyderco knife company decided to make a sprint run of straight razors who should design it and what steel should be used. (This possibility has been mentioned by Sal Glesser on their forum in the past. So it isn't an outrageous thought.) They sometimes outsource design and manufacture, and t...

The blade steel may be harder than facial hair, but the edge is very thin and must get hammered by the collision with hair. There is a sharpness test for knives where you hold a piece of paper with the top edge extending horizontal from one end gripped by thumb and finger. Then you make a push cut d...

Sweeny Tod, Fact or Fiction
Here is some PBS historical info on the story of the world's worst barber: http://www.pbs.org/kqed/demonbarber/index.html The story is several pages long so follow the chapter and sub-chapter links to read the whole thing. Something to think about before getting that shave in London. I copie...

Are Blades with Extreme Hard Steel Better?
OK, which is best; a hard blade that is difficult to hone but holds an edge, or a softer blade that hones/strops easier but loses it faster?

I live along the coast about two blocks from the Gulf of Mexico. Like Dave, I just thoroughly dry the razor off with TP. I also strop a little after drying the blade to insure the edge is dry. I haven't had a rust problem. I occasionally get a dark spot or stain that I assume is caused by missing a ...
