Re: 4711 Original Eau Du Cologne

Thanks
4711 turns up periodically in TK MAXX - very inexpensive, and there's usually a tester bottle to have a sniff of. I had a wee sample of it - wish liked it more, the history and mystique of its quite appealing.

My evidence is based on the fact that I speak to dozens of shavers every week (being in the business). A lot of my customers have tried a DE razor and still use (or prefer) a cartridge. Believe me, I have nothing to gain by presenting this fact because I make money selling DE razors and blades... I...

This 'silvertip' brush is very tough and scratchy, reminds me of a dense Simpson best brush. Not my cup of tea at all.

John Lewis' department stores, under the Kent brand. They have some other nice shaving stuff as well.

RR,
The canned stuff is fine by my skin, but of course I'd rather use a nice soap and brush - that bits the 'hobby' part for me. As for cartridges being ubiquitous because people like them...I'm sceptical about that. There's nothing else on the shelves.

I know lot of people that have used both DEs and Cartridge razors and prefer a cartridge razor. My Father inlaw (an ex-Italian barber) knows how to use a straight razor better than anyone else I know... the night before my wedding he gave me the best shave of my life with a straight, but he only us...

Have not had one in like 10 years as all the barbers in my neck of WPa have quit doing shaves. Has to deal with sanitary rules set forth by the state. I looked into this a while back. Really the rules re. sanitation are similar to how they ever were. IMO the real reason is less men were asking for ...

Not sure about patchouli but Tabac is a strong spicy cologne scent that loses its potency dramatically after a few uses and a bit of airing out. Smell a new puck in store and you'll likely have a strong negative reaction and miss out on a great soap. At £3.99 for a 100 gramme refill stick its a wee ...

Speick
Tabac
Arko
Wilkinson Sword stick

These are the soaps I've found to be best - all tallow heavy, in stick form, and relatively cheap to dirt cheap, depending where in the world you are.

I believe Klar Kabinett is vegetable based soap not dissimilar to some much loved Italian soaps, and the scent is Rose-like. May be worth a look.

My favourites are Speick, Arko, Tabac (chunky 100 gramme stick, maybe less ideal for travel) and Wilkinson Sword. Most are 50 grammes and will take up about the same amount of space - just pick your favourite. If you can get along with the Palmolive scent (I can't) it's the best choice for you; good...
