It's hard to categorize them because they vary in more than one dimension, but yes, different fixed razors feel and shave differently. With the newer ones, does it ever happen that you buy one and it ends up being too aggressive or not aggressive enough, i.e. that it's not right for you? That would...

Dominic - was this a new brand of blade that you hadn't used before?

If it is a brand of blade that you have been getting good results with until now, I would discard this blade and try a new one.

Glad the bleeding stopped.

1. Order a good boar hair brush from qedusa.com for under $15 (go to the main page, scroll down, click on the green Proraso logo, then when you get to the Proraso list it's the last item.) This is a good brush and you won't be disappointed. Good enough that you can save up some money and get a fanc...

If you are used to a boar brush, virtually all badger brushes (with the exception of a few premium models) will seem quite floppy. Personally, I think worthwhile silvertip badger brushes require an investment of $75.00 - $100.00, or more. Some examples of these from Vintage Blades, http://www.vintag...

I was delighted to make this discovery, recently. I now have a goodly supply of English Wilkinsons, but I have avoided the Swedish Gillettes - even to try them, because obtaining them was so unreasonably difficult. I have also been discouraged by the difficulty in obtaining Crytal blades for one dis...

Hi Steve - I agree with notthesharpest. I don't think more money would get you a better boar brush than the Proraso/Omega, which is an excellent brush in my mind. (I gave mine away and wasted no time in ordering a new one!) The plastic handle is really the most practical. It is lighweight and it is ...

Quite a write-up, Michael, and you made some good points: Historical accuracy vs authenticity vs would we really want to do what they did? Glad to hear your wife is recovering from what sounds like major surgery, indeed. I didn't watch my father shave very often, probably just occasionally while on ...

I've been shaving with the Merkur Classic Light Handle for several days now. As compared to the Vision it is certainly more easy to use. I can zip that thing around my face no problem. The shaves are good, but they don't last as long as with my Vision. With the Vision I can shave at 5:30 am and go ...

A couple of points to keep in mind: First, the coins are being made into razor blades in Bangladesh, not India. Second, I wouldn't condemn all industries in a given country based on one example of illegal, and likely poor-quality, manufacturing. Similar examples could be found in most countries. I w...

I agree with Niksa, Dave.

Go for a comfortable shave, first. A close shave, without irritation, will come gradually.

Hi Alex - I'm aware that Omega makes badger brushes, but I thought that their only brush marketed under the Proraso brand was the boar brush. Of course, this may be different in different markets. Eljay doesn't say where he's from, so it's hard to take that into consideration. Does Omega market badg...

I'll also use my Red Tip SS, which was a gift from Justin, and which is currently his favorite razor. With these and a prayer, I joi...
